I remember when we had phones looking older than that and we could only have three in the house (study, kitchen on the wall and master bedroom) and had to make do with a huge bell on the wall outside the house to ring so you know if you had a call and couldn’t hear the phone. Plus it had letters round the dial so, eg for Grantham you dialled 0 then the letters GRA (before STD) and you could dial numbers my hitting the black buttons eg for 5 hit them quickly 5 times - good olde days they say ...

Remember ours very well, we had a two tone grey phone, we never really sat on the seat of the cupboard as we weren’t allowed to be on the phone for very long if we had made the call and my dad always answered with the last four digits of the number. Didn’t even say hello first.

Yes we even had a party line when I was a child which could be hilarious.

And the box beside it to put the money in. Remember my nan was one of the few in her street to have a phone, she kept it in the bedroom out of sight of any neighbours who would be 'wanting to use it every day ' : D

We also had a Party Line. What a nuisance

Our Tel No was only 5 digits long whereas now it's 8 digits locally.

And you had to rent your Handset from the GPO and pay a fee every Month until it became BT and you could buy your own.

Thats where my long distance love was spent until we got married, the hours feeding 10 pence pieces into it 😍

Hallway! Those were what posh people had 🤣
We lived in a tiny two up, two down so the phone took pride of place on the unit in the living room 👍🏻
