Our Wedding,Shopping,Park Hopping Trip Day 4: 4Rivers,35 Shrimp & 2 Cannolis : a whole lotta food
Day 4 Saturday 15 November - the day before is HERE
4Rivers Smokehouse, Winter Park Farmers Market,Shopping , Millers Ale House I Drive. Happily we had a great night of undisturbed sleep and the warmness of the room was quite welcome We woke up around 7 am which was earlier than we had expected after a late night but it was nice to just lay in bed, doze off, have coffee , eat honeybuns and watch the news . It really is a great way to start the day – no rushing off to be at rope drop – in fact no parks at all today for us as it turned out. We mulled over our options for the day A trip out to Kennedy and on to a Beach – this was discounted as whilst we did quite like the idea of seeing the AHOF, we really couldn’t be bothered with the drive there and back Shopping and then the afternoon at Animal Kingdom – this was looking likely and I even booked some FP’s for late afternoon “ just in case” but as it turned out, we didn’t make it. That’s a shame as today turned out lovely and sunny and the following Saturday when we again thought we would go to AK , it tiddled down with rain all day. In the end we settled on a trip up to Winter Park to see the Farmer’s Market with lunch at 4 rivers, and a nice lazy afternoon in the sun by the pool. Well we got 50% of this right anyway … On the way out I stopped to collect my bouquet as the lovely Lisa ( maemaesmummy at mockingjay services) had taken delivery of it earlier in the week and then dropped it off at the hotel yesterday evening). It was very exciting to be opening it and we were pleased with it and the buttonhole. It made the wedding feel much more real now – only a few days to go. We arrived at Winter Park around 1130 – the local signs to the Farmers Market are pretty good and we had taken the street address from the website before we left just in case. It was lovely driving along downtown Orlando in the sunshine – I should have been a bit sharper and taken a few pics along the way ! We managed to get a spot just a little way up on the street from the actual market . We saw lots of signs for this temporary ice rink that was being set up but we didn’t get to see it We had a lovely time just looking at the stalls and sampling the freebies of freshly popped corn, pineapple, various salsas and sauces, breads etc . The smells were just delicious especially from this big old popcorn kettle We popped inside the main hall where the most delicious cakes and pastries were being sold. I had a sample of pumpkin cheesecake – delicious - and came away with two cheesecake cannolis – one of which was immediately consumed It was totally scrummy ( cost about $3) Andy opted for an empanada of melted brie and caramelised onion – it was eaten before I could take a pic ,but I was assured it was delicious. There were lots of seats and tables here to have food and drinks – it was such a great set up. We wandered around the next section which was mainly devoted to garden plants and flowers In total we were here just over an hour, it was wonderful, lots of sights and smells and so nice to just soak it all up in the sunshine – it’s the sort of thing the boys would hate to do so to be able to just meander along was great. We set off along here trying to get to see the big lake – I had thought we might take the boat tour but Andy wasn’t so keen We passed some fabulous houses, many still with amazing Halloween decorations and scarecrows outside but Andy was whizzing along so no snaps I am afraid. It looks a wonderful place to live in. We did ( eventually, after several circuits) find the lake Very beautiful scenery and seemingly very peaceful We set off for 4Rivers – address in the satnav and keeping a sharp eye but somehow managed to completely miss it – turns out we sailed straight past it as we were both looking on the same side of the road In case you fancy a trip there – this is the sign to look out for ( borrowed from Google ) This is the type of place that you would see on Man v Food and if you google 4Rivers Winter Park and look through the images you will see the pics of the large queues of people going round the building – its that popular. We were fortunate though in that the queue was still inside the main building and moved really quickly. It’s a massive menu and we stood back from the queue for a few minutes to take it all in and to take a peak at what other people ( not another Brit in sight I have to say) were ordering. We finally made our choices and joined the queue It's certainly not elegant dining , the food is plopped onto your tray , it's like an adults school dinner set up ! As it was full of locals, I felt a bit out of place with a camera so just sneaked these when I was close to the counter Andy went for prime rib dinner with 3 sides at $16.99 Boston BBQ beans, mash, fries And somehow a biscuit sneaked in too. Bit low on carbs that meal I thought ... Lol, so I went for the low carb trio of sliders (!) with two sides, fries and corn bread ... at $8.49 I had chicken ( bit meh actually) , burnt ends ( delish) and pulled pork ( omg delish) The corn bread was quite dense but delicious and had a bit of a nip with peppers in it. It was quite simply, amazing food. We couldn't finish it all. I only managed the pork slider and then just ditched the buns and ate the meat from the rest. I wasn't fussed with the chicken, the alternative was brisket, that might have been better. They had a huge cake section too, we were Gobsmacked that people finished these enormous dinners and then went for desserts, we were about the only people not to get an ice cream or slice of cake afterwards I took this again from Google just to give you an idea of the scale ! Don’t be put off by the set up – there is a large dining hall at the back of the building ( again courtesy of Google) But we ate inside the main building in a booth by the window We shared a large Sprite from the plentiful re fill stations The bill for this mountain of food ? Less than $35, outstanding value. Voluntary tip at the till as it's self service. I think we left $5 Phrase of the holiday appeared again as we drove away, yes it's " I've eaten so much I feel sick" Food lovers... You MUST go here ! I encourage you to click away now and go look at their menu – it’s a total drool fest.

Oh my goodness we were stuffed .
I was thinking a nap by the pool would be nice now ( definitely not a swim , I would sink straight to the bottom with that huge lunch) but somehow we ended up at Walmart – where we passed an hour looking at even more food and apparently spending $50 on 14 items , very few of which were remotely interesting ! As we were near, we then popped into the Lake Buena Vista Factory Outlets . Its about 2.30 now and I am fast giving up on any pool time. I think I may have made some barbed comment that if the promised cold weather arrived next week , I would remind Andy hourly that we spent the two hottest days so far in the jeffing shops ! ( and lo, it came to pass, it was indeed very cold, and I did mention this, A LOT) These outlets are ok – but you need to have a rummaging head on It seems to have improved quite a bit since our last visit here in 2010 I noted that I bought a woollen cardigan in DKNY that was 90% reduced at $15.99 – now that’s what I call a bargain . Andy bought another polo shirt in Calvin Klein ( as it was so hot, lol) . I think this was around $23. I found my shopping notes so I am going to add tally up so far at the end of today’s write up I had a minor protest and refused to get out of the car to look at the last few stores ( Wrangler, Levis and some sports one) – instead eating my by now slightly warm cannoli – so felt even more sickly and I think I may well have had a crafty snooze while Andy tried on countless pairs of trainers and jeans and didn’t buy any. We are both wilting a bit now from the heat ( how ironic), full tummies and the late night so we popped back to the Rosen for a crafty nap about 4pm – I was still hankering for time by the pool but the sun was fast fading and most of the pool was in the shade. We had a nice couple of hours just chilling out and around 7pm decided to venture out and try and find Millers Ale House So after our light lunch, and being more stuffed than the Michelin Man, we decided that a lite bite from Millers would be sufficient. After all , the mammoth walk (ooh at least 5 mins) across the road would surely have burned off all the carbs from lunch. It was busy, Saturday night after all and a local college football game was on tv so there was lot of loud sporting rivalry going on. Being teen-less had it's advantage of us being able to sit at the bar and thus get our meals more quickly ( cos we were starving , of course) Andy had a beer and I had a fanta type drink Andy chose the 35 shrimp with loaded fries. I think this had a ranch and marinara sauce I went for the Fiesta Nachos, this was a mountain of food and a bit spicier than I expected, those sneaky jalapeños were everywhere. I ate for ages and hardly made a dent in it. I had to stop when the melted cheese went cold and took on the consistency of rubberised super glue. It was embarrassing when you tried to fork a mouthful and the nachos shot off the plate as the cheese was bonding great globs together. Prior to that point though, it was really tasty, loads of chili Beef and cheese with a big dollop of sour cream ( I had asked for no guacamole or salsa) . I love nachos and these were yummy good. Sorry it looks anaemic, I didn't use the flash being at the bar, and the pics came out very " pink" due to the lighting, photobucket auto light fix has made them go a bit pale The receipt is in glorious pinkocolour So the bill came to just under $33 Being a bad person , I had signed Andy up for an birthday offer. A free slice of Cap'n Jacks cake. This was doubly bad as it wasn't his birthday and he wouldn't get the cake , it was all for me. But I was full so decided to pop it in the fridge for breakfast Eagle eyed Dibbers may have spotted the flaw in this plan. I hadn't tried the cake and did not realise it was made of ice cream ! So by morning, it was a gloppy mess. I still ate some though. It was lush ! It was great fun in there and we were pleased we had finally got there. We waddled back, noting that the Xmas decs had started going up We were back at the hotel by 9.30 ( oh my word we know how to live it up without the kids eh) We stopped at the Zebra bar for a couple of drinks It was a karaoke night –, that’s all I can say No ok, I will say it was excruciating so they were a couple of very quick drinks indeed By 1030 we were ready to crash out – it had been a lazy day but last night was still catching up with us and we just felt very tired. It had been a lovely day just moseying around. Lights out around 11pm . In case anyone is interested , here are some of our shopping bargains – I don’t have pics of all them I am afraid but this gives you some idea of what we got – I will add them now on each day as we go along. It appears the only day we didn’t go in a shop was our wedding day – but then we did go in the Boardwalk Bakery so maybe that does count as well ! 13 Nov Kissimmee Outlet Centre Tommy Hilfiger Scarf $10.35 and Ladies socks $2.99 a pair Men’s Socks and Boxers ( I know the socks were $3.40 or $3.30 a pair, I think the Boxers were something like $9 a pair ) Also a Navy blue foldaway umbrella Burgundy colour Baseball Cap $11.70 ( no pic ) Nike Factory Outlet Nike Ladies Free Run $39.97 Lol, these are for my upcoming commute so I don’t go falling over whilst no doubt “ brisk walking for my connecting train at London Victoria, skilfully avoiding all the holiday makers heading for the Gatwick Express Premium Outlets Vineland Armani Exchange Mens XXL Cotton Hoody $9.99 ( no pic but colours were racing green and an aubergine/purple) Ladies Silk Long Cardigan , also on buy one get one free so two for $15.99 . I got one in peach and one in a light sandy/beige colour Merino Wool Jumper $35 Calvin Klein Mens Polo Top $27.50 ( it’s the one Andy is wearing in the pics for 14 November) Lacoste Men’s jumper $49.89 – modelled wonderfully here around Epcot Disney Warehouse Tinkerbell windchimes $7.99 Easel Frame $ 10.99 Glove and dishtowel set $8.99 14 Nov Premium Outlets Int Drive Levis Ladies Cardigan $14.98 Ladies Black Jeans $29.99 and Men’s 501’s $ 29.99 ( sorry no pics , just plain jeans !) Calvin Klein Mens Polo Top $21.83 ( same as the one in previous pic but in white) Lacoste Jumper $39.89 Andy is helpfully modelling this items here Phew, Some amazing prices there the next day is HERE

It was a foody heaven day . My swimsuit never made it out the case . I'm really pleased with our shopping bargains, some of the prices were incredible. Hah, the universal pic was after our photoshoot with Randy Chapman and I called Andy catalogue man as he was well into the posing

Sounds like a great day Amanda nice and relaxing. Winter park looks brilliant, although is that a sack of lemons andy is eyeing up at the fruit stall? He does know he can't bring that back.
The food looks so good in the smokehouse if I ever get back that will be one to try for sure. Millers became a firm favourite of ours their portions are just ridiculous. That is some really impressive shopping and some proper bargains, I to snapped up one of the disney frames although I do wish I had bought a couple more for people as everyone loves it. Oh Andy Andys pictures in his new clothes some of them are proper modelling shots, I also properly lol'd at the one of him with the postbox he is hugging it the exact same way he is hugging you in the one above! Cant wait to see your next day xxx |
