‘Free’ dining

We booked OKW with last years free dining offer for November this year.

I was looking online at the Cabins at FW (we stayed there on our honeymoon and fell in love with the seclusion of it - and the golf cart!) and it comes up as £2,700 or there abouts for our dates with tickets but not the dining plan.

When I rang Disney to ask about changing hotels she said they’ll move our free dining across (albeit QSDP rather than DDP) and the $200 gift card, she priced it up and it came back as £3,300 or so.

The QSDP would be £575ish to add on to the £2,700 which means we’d then be paying for the dining plan and wouldn’t have the ‘free’ dining at all!

Is this common? I find it really strange. The Disney website says that the price of £2,700 includes a free night worth £293 so I expected to have to pay £2,993 because of the free dining.

Sorry if this doesn’t make sense!

There's a discount on tickets too at the moment, so that also needs to be factored in. You pay rack rates with free dining, so it's free based on that. Sometimes the free nights offer and paying for the dining plan works out about the same, sometimes it's a lot more. It partly depends on the number of people in your party. It never works out better for us as we have 4 adults in our party, so to book free nights and buy the dining plan is more expensive that rack rate with free dining.

Was she maybe adding on the upgrade to keep you with the ddp rather than qsdp?

I’m wondering if that’s the case, although she did ask if we were happy to be downgraded to the QSDP and I said that the QSDP was all that we really needed.

I just find it very curious.
