I would check if it matter how good the German airport is.

As a connecting passenger how much of it are you allowed access to? Besides you will add several hours on your flight time.

I dont know what the prices are with Virgin or Lufthansa, But have you looked at Thomson they now fly direct from Birmingham, They fly the Dreamliner which IMO is an amazing plane

Thomson don't fly in the winter months and we are flying into Orlando and out of Miami as we are doing a cruise, the Virgin flight is the Dreamliner which we have done before.

Thank you all for your replies still not decided I want to do Virgin but the other half wants to be closer to home.
We will get the train to Manchester airport if you book in advance you can get fares for £7.50 pp and the train or coach from LHR £13.
I'm swaying towards Virgin as the flight leaves at 9.30 pm opposed to 5pm I will probably get a few hours sleep on the later flight.
I did read there is quite a lot to do at Frankfurt airport they have a shopping mall and you can do tours but I'm wondering whether I will be too tired.
Looks like we are going to toss a coin got to get them booked before flights go up.

Frankfurt is a nice airport and English is widely spoken. I would have no problem with spending 4 hours there especially as it would save a considerable amount of time clearing Heathrow and getting your transfer home. Just have a relaxing breakfast while you wait for your connecting flight.

I can't comment on Lufthansa though as I have never flown with them.

For me it's 50/50 if I sleep on the return flight or not so the shortest journey after U.K. Customs and immigration would be important. Once I'm landed I just want to get home.
