Seat for an 18 month old?
You'll have to bear with me here as this is one of those thinking out loud posts.
We fly in August this year with our 6 year old and our daughter who will be 18 months old. We initially had this booked for last year when she would have been 6 months so never really considered booking a seat. As it is we have the back row of the bubble reserved but am now pondering if we are doing the right thing. If we book her own seat it's £500 return on top of what we've paid - plus we have already paid £165 to reserve seats. The other issue is if we book her a seat we would be 4 seats in the middle downstairs and lose our bubble reservations. I now know the armrests upstairs don't go up which means we can't have her between her brother and one of us which was the original idea. Any thoughts / tips / general musings? |

We took our Erin when she was just 18 months old (nearly 5 now) ... can't recommend them having their own seat enough! It's a long old flight to have them on your lap!

We went to Cuba (10 and a half hour flight) with an 18 month old and a 6 year old and the toddler sat on our laps it was fine for the most part, we lifted all the arm rests up and he sat on seat for some of it. For us it was going to cost £1400 for a seat for him and it wasn't worth the money.

We had no seat for our dd when she was 18mths old, she was fine on my lap, if she got bored her dad took her for a little walk and she was ok after.I took her old bf v pillow to have her sleep on my knee. We went again the year after when she was 2 1/2 so she had a seat (dibbers row in the bubble) she spent more time sat on the little storage bin looking out the window than she did in her seat!

When Our DD was 18 months I refused to fly to Orlando unless she had her own seat. We had presviously done short haul when she was 10 months old and it was a nightmare.

I'd say it depends on your child!
The family sitting next to us last time had their 15month on mums lap the whole flight. Cabin crew said they could move back a few rows so she'd have her own seat (really empty flight) but they declined as if she had her own seat she'd want to get up and wander around, cause havoc etc. Whereas with mum she was quiet and content. |

First time we took our 18 month grandson, we also booked a seat for him . Personally it was the right thing for us, he was far to active to be sat on laps and the journey would have had us stressed. No amount of walking up and down tired him out and we were glad of him strapped in for landing
Some people manage ok, you know your child best. |

Our son has always big for his age so we would never have survived if he didn't have his own seat when he was 18months. The journey there he slept for 2 hrs and then walked all the way to Florida. We knew everyone on that plane by the end lol! On the way back he slept the whole journey.

Thanks guys this is a pretty impossible decision right now.
I think she would be better with her own seat even if it moved us from the bubble but we are potentially moving home soon and £500 isn't easy to find. |

We have taken our granddaughter twice, and she was on our laps both time... we managed... now she is 2, our next trip we had to buy a seat for her.
