This is shockingly poor. Just because they believe ‘they can’ does not mean that it is right. Virgin rely on the obviously false perception that they are in some way better than their rivals and can therefore gouge out a premium in price. Clearly this perception is incorrect.
Another thing that I find amusing is that in previous dealings I have been informed that Va is a separate company to Vh. If this were truly the case, then surely Vh can state exactly to the penny what they paid Va and exactly for what.

I also queried the refund as they say is calculated by VA checking the difference between economy and premium economy at the time of booking. They say £638 for 3 seats but on the VH website at the time of booking we paid the upgrade of £1179. Of course I don't have a screenshot to prove this so it's my word against theirs. How they don't have records of pricing on their website is beyond me ?!

So we will be cancelling and not using VH again as this experience has been horrendous and we feel that they are now asking us to accept a downgrade but pay more than we would have had we chosen economy in the first place !
Technically it doesn't apply to Virgin Holidays as they are not an airline but it certainly does to Virgin Atlantic who are the carrier involved who downgraded you. If you had decided not to cancel you would have needed to claim from Virgin Atlantic and not Virgin Holidays.

VA are also refusing to give me a fare breakdown as well so we have no way of knowing whether their offer is adequate.

Wish I had taken a screenshot of the upgrade costs when I booked 😕

I have sought advice from the CAA who have said they have no jurisdiction over travel companies.

VA and VH are unwilling to provide a fare breakdown so it looks like we’ve reached a dead end.

At least we still have UC to look forward to on the return leg.

What about ABTA?

If you’ve been affected by this, check your booking as they added on a cancellation fee deposit (£46) to mine.
