New RFID Entry goes live...
For hotel guests. As part the ongoing efforts to continuously enhance the Guest experience, the main entrance turnstiles will be converted to a more accessible entrance beginning this week at all Disney theme parks.
The first phase of enhancements to the theme park main entrances will be available for Guest use beginning December 12 at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With these enhancements, resort Guests will have the ability to touch to enter the park at the main entrance touch points instead of using the current turnstiles. |

The main entrance touch points use radio frequency (RF) technology that allow Guests with RF-enabled Key to the World cards (and eventually RF-enabled ticket media) to simply hold their card to the touch point, place their finger on the pad and, upon successful completion, enter the theme park without the barrier of a turnstile.
These enhancements allow for easier Guest flow through the main entrances – parties no longer will need to break up to push a wheelchair or stroller through a gate. They can all enter together after interacting with the main entrance touch points. This enhancement is initially available to our resort Guests with ticket entitlements on their Key to the World cards. As work continues and more turnstiles are converted and all ticket stock is switched to RF-enabled tickets, more Guests will have the ability to use the new main entrance touch points to enter the park. Signage will be in place at each theme park’s main entrance to help direct resort Guests to the main entrance touch points. The entry process will be seamless for all Guests at each phase of conversion. If a Guest without an RF-enabled Key to the World card tries to enter the park using the main entrance touch points, a Cast Member will be able to assist the Guest without redirecting back to a turnstile line. More information will be shared at each phase and when RF-enabled ticket media is readily available and in use. Walt Disney World - Touch To Pay Available at Select Locations Beginning 11/12/2012 As part of our efforts to continually enhance the Guest experience, payment devices are being installed across the Walt Disney World Resort in preparation for new payment functionality. The payment devices will be available for Guests to use beginning December 11 at the following locations wherever Key to the World cards are accepted today: Epcot, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Resort (except for laundry, valet and arcade locations in resorts). The devices allow Guests the ability to touch to pay with RF-enabled Key to the World card and swipe credit cards. At this time, only Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel that has been activated (listed above) can utilize the touch to pay functionality. Devices also allow entry of a PIN via a pin pad for touch to pay transactions. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel that has been activated with touch to pay functionality (listed above) will have the opportunity to set up a PIN during the check-in process as part of the new payment functionality. Guests will have the opportunity to setup a PIN through a modification to the existing Online Check-In Service if they choose to. A PIN in required for purchases of $50 or more (except for locations with a tip line; a PIN is required for all purchases at these locations). Guests with RF-enabled Key to the World cards will have the ability to make purchases using this payment process wherever a new payment device is available. |

Slightly confused as to how this speeds up entrance if you still have to use your ticket and scan your finger, but no turnstile?

We're usually on a key to the world card, so reading the card is not normally a problem. One of the biggest problems is reading the biometric, and you have to hope/assume that the next generation of that technology is also being deployed and that this part of the process will also speed up.

Also what about the bag search does that still take place as that slows things down?

We were at magic kingdom today and they were testing this on some of the rides with the fastpass plus system. Slowed fastpass lines down on some rides particularly under the sea where they were using some kind of tablet machine that did not want to seem to work well with the cast member.

We were wondering about the 'sneaking' past too! I guess if theres a castmember there it will deter anyone from trying to be cheeky?!
