Tips for removing a car badge.

DS's new (to him) car has one of the letters missing from the badge, we figure we need to replace the whole word incase the new letter doesn't match the others.

Is it easy to get these off or are we risking the paintwork?

Thank you.

Don't use boiling water on a car. It heats and area very quickly, but equally cools it very quickly as well which can lead to damage. Lead alone the risk of scalding yourself.

Use a hairdryer to warm the area then ideally some thread (fishing line, cotton thread) to then saw through the glue behind. If you do this and are pulling towards you as well you stay away from the paintwork. If you can't do this then the credit car style is probably the next best option.

I also wouldn't be taking anything mechanical to removing the glue residue. It is too easy to burn the paint if you don't know what you are doing. White spirit, petrol or one of the many cleaning products for removing tar from paintwork will work with a little bit of elbow work and a cloth.

I use a hair dryer too. Then I get a plastic straw and slide it along to dislodge the badge and take it off

Plastic straw would work as well as a card will, maybe even better.

Heat it slightly with a hairdryer (don't get it too hot). Use dental floss behind the badge to remove it.
Then WD40 to remove the remaining residue. Then some polish/wax to seal the paint.

Edited at 02:02 PM.
