Mine were introduced by friends but my mother wasn’t keen and said to her friend in her native language that she thought he fancied himself and really wasn’t her type (my dad was a bit of a mick jagger wannabe) only for my father to respond in the same language much to my mothers shock. They married 12 weeks later and have been together nearly 50 years and are very much in love. Somethings are meant to be I guess.

My dad was a student after he was demobbed in ww2. He took lodgings in Aberdeen where he was studying at the University. My mum was the landlady’s daughter. They were married for 60 years.

Through my dads sister who worked in the same co-op cafe, my mum had just moved over from Southern Ireland.

My mum and dad lived in streets on the same council estate, just over the road from each other. They were both divorced and raising two children each, they met through their children playing together. It didn’t last though, they never lived together and split up when I was a toddler.

James Herriot -
Well, actually one of the younger vets but they did meet James Herriot.
It was a cycling group that went around together in the local area. My parents joined up separately. The vet introduced them.
They used to drink at Herriots local pub after the rides.
Mum and Dad ended up getting a tandem bike.
Dad passed away after they were married for 25 years and six children.

Mine met on a bus. Dad hadn’t long moved to the area. Mum thought him an incredibly rude city boy because he didn’t get up and offer his seat (shame on him!). They were married for 56 years before they died three months apart.

Mine worked together in a bank. My mum was more senior to my dad and relationships at work were very much frowned upon. They were married 11 days short of 50 years when my dad passed away.
