We recently redid our whole house - tile in kitchen/utility/bathrooms and engineered wood everywhere else.
Makes life so much easier as cleaning hard floors is a breeze. And no build up of yuck over the years like in carpets. We would never have a carpet again.

Similar set up here, I only have carpet on stairs. We do have UFH though which means the flooring suits

If you have UFH then you really do need hard floors. We have tile where we have UFH.

Have a look at Polyflor Camero. It is the same if not better quality than Karndean but much cheaper. Polyflor have always been essentially a commercial manufacturer so the flooring is incredibly hardwearing. I have the Cambridge Parquet all through downstairs and it is beautiful. I would highly recommend removing the skirtings and then replacing once fitted though as it just gives a really lovely finish.

We have Amtico all downstairs apart from the study and bathroom. It’s very hardwearing and the hall, which was the first to be done, looks as fresh as the kitchen, which was done 4 years later.
We have a mat at the front and back door.

I'm going to buck the trend! I've just had my flooring re-done after having a kitchen refit. I went for Karndean type (Moduleo) in the kitchen, but have a grey carpet everywhere else downstairs. However, we don't tend to use our front door, we use a door direct into the kitchen from the integral garage. We are also a no shoes inside house! I prefer the cosiness of the carpet but appreciate it doesn't clean up as easily... I guess it's personal preference. Budget wise, carpet was cheaper for the hallway too as it's much less labour intensive to fit.

We have carpet now and agree it is cosy. But we do trek rubbish in. Even if shoes off I don't see how we can avoid it 😕

We moved into a new build in 2019 and have tile through the downstairs with the exception of the lounge & stairs which are carpeted.

Easy to clean/and loads of positive comments which is lovely. Xx
