That's someone who has no idea what they're talking about! Apple warranty is worldwide, doesn't matter where you buy it from. I've bought an iPad in the USA and had it issues dealt with in the UK and similarly i when i had my iPhone 4 (bought in the UK) it had an issue whilst in the states and i had it swapped out over there.

Unfortunately that is not the case anymore

Your ipad is covered but the phone is not!

From apple website:

"IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the Apple Product."

Read too mant stories where you have to post the iphone back to us to get it swapped etc

Iphone is not covered by worldwide warranty the guy in apple store in mall said. I'm just passing on what he said. Although people will have had individual experiences going back to a store in uk I'm sure. Just giving the OP the info to make a decision. Thanks!

I'm glad I saw this thread, as was considering buying a sim free one when I'm over in December. Bought my current 4s from Florida Mall sim free, but have had no problems with it.

I wonder what prompted the change?

I'm assuming it's to stop people buying them cheaper when in the US when they can sell for more money if buying in the uk .
