Oh my, what a wonderful trip down memory lane. We went for our first trip in 1998 by which time the castle was back to normal. I loved it when the characters just appeared on the street, it was so exciting, but I suppose with the number of people visiting nowadays that just wouldn't work. I love looking back at my albums from our 1998 trip. I too loved the big toystore at the end of International Drive, it was a bit of a landmark.
Thank you for sharing your memories, I've loved looking at them.

Brings back memories of our first trip in 1998. We visited in the spring and Animal Kingdom wasn't finished and we returned in the November and it was. We visted at 5am!
Skycoaster had just opened in Kissimmee on our first visit and I rode it with my brother. Luckily I had the cord to pull as he began freaking out screaming he was going to die half way up lol, The video my husband took was so hard to see as his hand was shaking to much just watching. It's amazing to see how much Orlando changes just between trips let alone how it's changed since our first visit. Also can't believe we went twice that year after finding a bargain on teletext. Roll on the days when we can do that again when the kids pay for themselves |

Aw, you missed the pink castle. Shame.
The toy store was quite an attraction on Intl Drive. It's a pity it's gone now. Those Skycoasters look really bad (I think there's one near Intl Drive too). You'd never get me on one of those things. There are lots of changes over the years but also lots of things remain the same. The parks are still roughly the same as when we first went - although obviously the addition of Animal Kingdom and Islands of Adventure were huge changes. And, unfortunately, I don't think it's ever going to be a "bargain" again. The one thing that might help is going outside the school holidays. Perhaps one day we will return in early December. Back To The Future was a great ride. But so is the Simpson ride, which is pretty much the same ride. Thank you all for reading and glad you enjoyed the little trip down memory lane.

For whatever reason, I don't seem to have many Universal photos from this time. And I don't seem to have any of Kong.
