Can I use travel insurance to claim for ...

non-refundable universal tickets?
booking dvc points through a US site?

I was very much aware that these are not refundable when I booked (I was hopeful we would get there this year when I booked and saw the risk as very low!), but I thought I would ask on here for you more experienced DIBBers to see what you think?

My gut tells me that insurers would say that both services are still being provided and it isn't my fault I can't get there. So ultimately there is no refund. So that is the response I am expecting from you all

It is what it is, and I knew the risks booking these things. But I thought I would ask just in case, as you never know! I have never made a travel insurance claim before.

My travel insurance is with stay sure

If insurance does cover then they will also need to deduct the usual fees and also advise to contact your credit card first, its a worth a go. Are universal not able to extend tickets?

The tickets were through undercover tourist. We have decided to start a family instead of postponing the holiday

Ok, firstly try contacting undercover tourist and see if you can get a goodwill gesture of a refund. i was able with expedia with a non refundable hotel stay.
Then try credit card
Then insurance, although if the insurance hasnt started yet, you could get a refund of the insurance fee.

DVC points unlikely to be covered

I'm not sure this has been mentioned but I would also check when you booked them. If you booked whilst the advice was not to travel, then it is unlikely you would get a refund. Unfortunately that was the risk you took when booking. However like others have said check first with all your providers.

Thank you everyone. Much appreciated. As I said, I am expecting nothing in terms of a refund but if I didn’t ask on her and the providers etc I would never know. I figured I have nothing to lose 😃

You should be able to get a refund for the DVC stay as you have not purchased any points. You have booked a room from a third party. How that person books the room is of no consequence to making a claim. Your claim should be treated exactly the same as if you booked with, for example, Virgin Holidays.
If you do make a claim do not under any circumstances say you bought points or a timeshare (you haven't) as they will then most likely refuse a claim (which if that happens take them to the insurance ombudsman).

Our insurance paid out our dvc bookings last year but they were booked before covid. Don’t think I’d be covered if I booked after.
