We booked universal through undercover but they said they won’t refunds as it is now over a year since we bought them. They advised going to customer services ant Universal studios should we ever get there and pay the difference for the price at that time

Thank you everyone. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your responses. It gives me a better overview before I dive in and decide what to do.

Still in between insurance and section 75 to try first

Universal have extended 2020 UK 14 day tickets to the end of 2022, if you are palnning on going before then, (or maybe you can sell them?)

As long as the ticket agent supplied the correct goods then S75 should not be used. It is not the suppliers fault you cannot use them and they would be able to successfully claim they supplied what was ordered. It would have to be an insurance job.

I had to prove I couldn't claim using section 75 for our 2020 trip before insurance would deal with us. As the hotels/theme parks are open I'd imagine your section 75 will get rejected. Took a while but got our money back via insurance and that included hotels booked via DVC rental company.

Thank you! Very interesting that insurance wouldn’t deal with you without s75 proof.

I was thinking of going down the consequential losses route. As the flight was cancelled, hence loss of hotel money is a consequence of that.

I'm pretty sure no insurer would cover you for a personal decision not to take the holiday (or the offer of a goodwill extension on a non-refundable product).

That said I wouldn't hold back on starting a family just because it might mean I lose some money. That lost amount will pale into insignificance compared to the cost of bringing up the family, but even that is far outweighed by the joy that it will hopefully bring

The poster who stated this is correct, travel insurance is a "last resort" cover.

So you need to go through the chain of "responsible" people first:

In the case of a hotel booking

Hotel, hotel company HQ, Credit Card then finally insurance
