Team Bricki Just Touched Down in London Town- September 2021 INDEX ADDED- COMPLETE
Welcome to my 2021 holiday trip report- like everyone else it isn’t what we planned or where we had our hearts set on going, but I am sure we will have a fabulous time
I have done a couple of these now so will keep the intro short, I’m Nicki, 35 years old and live in West Yorkshire with my soulmate Brett (38). We are massive foodies, cocktail connoisseurs, tattooed Disney princesses trying to live our best life in the crazy world of Covid. We have had several trips cancelled to America and intended to keep going until the end of the year but for various reasons we gave up and decided to try and make some use of all the annual leave we needed to take. We were supposed to go to London for our first wedding anniversary in May 2020 so thought we might as well rebook that now that restrictions have been lifted in England. Our little break will cover a week, 2 nights in Leeds and 5 nights in London. Brett is originally from South Africa and the lack of places we could travel to this year visa free has given us the much needed kick up the bottom to apply for his British Citizenship. The first part of the process is to pass the Life in The UK exam and the GESE B1 Level 5 English Speaking exam. The second one is a bit annoying to say the least as it is basically costing us £150 to prove he can speak English, his first language! But he has to take it as South Africa isn’t a predominantly English speaking country. Anyway this is the reason for the couple of nights in Leeds first! We are staying at the Radisson Blu in Leeds, this was a bargain as we have stayed here a few times in the past so we had enough points to get a big discount. Our Leeds food plans include Grand Pacific, Neon Cactus, Vice and Virtue, Mowgli and cocktails and jazz at the Domino Club We will get the train from Leeds into Kings Cross and jump in an uber to our hotel- The Montague on The Gardens. There is a lovely story behind why we are staying here which I will post with the main report. We will probably have something to eat here when we arrive in the evening- hopefully the Beach Bar will be open but will visit the Leopard Bar if not We plan to do a couple of museums and Brett really wants to look around an art gallery. I would love to do some of the typical touristy spots like Buckingham Palace, Hamleys, Harrods, Tower etc. We haven’t left a huge amount of free time so we will see what we can get done. Of course there will be a couple of West End visits and our shows of choice I think best represent our cancelled trip to Boston and Orlando- Hamilton and Frozen! Our rough itinerary is as follows DAY ONE LEEDS DAY TWO LEEDS DAY THREE LEEDS / TRAVEL TO LONDON DAY FOUR Victoria and Alberts Museum Meet up with some fellow Disney loving friends for lunch at Hoppers and cocktails at Cahoots and Trader Vics DAY FIVE Tate Modern Borough Market Walk around some of the touristy spots Cocktails at Swift Underground Dinner at Blacklock DAY SIX Breakfast at the hotel National History Museum Cocktails at Blind Pig Dinner at Flat Iron Hamilton DAY SEVEN Lunch at El Pastor Dessert at Cake and Bubbles Cocktails at Smokey Kudu in Peckham Dinner at Kudu Grill in Peckham DAY EIGHT Lunch at Opera Tavern or Ave Mario Frozen Apologies for the lack of pictures but I will post plenty in the actual report- and I will do my best to capture more than just food and cocktails! We said we wanted to try and do more cultural things like museums, art and sight seeing as it is our main break for this year, but will see what happens. I am hoping we smash the early starts and late finishes like we did in Orlando!
