September 2022 trip
Will be our first time in Florida.
Is a 10 or 14 day best to do Disney and universal as first timers? Both my teenagers will want to do universal ( Harry Potter fans), where as my teenage daughter would love Disney too. Will hopefully be staying on Disney x |

We did 14 days but would usually do 2 park days and then a rest day, there are loads to do rest days, water parks, shopping, crazy golf. Would recommend getting a brits guide to Orlando as we found this a godsend to help the first time.

14 Days would be needed to do WDW and Universal on your first trip.
10 days would be a rush. WDW 6 parks and Universal 3 parks. You will need a couple of days at MK/Epcot to see everything. You might want a rest day / shopping day as well. |

do 14 days and take a look at the offers - you have until august to book and get dining credit - attraction tickets are matching the US offer of $250 gift card whereas UK is $200. I booked 14 nights ASMovies and got $500 dining credit and $250 gift card as well as 2 x star wars magic bands.

Be careful… as a first timer you will be guaranteed to try and do everything and won’t even come close.
Definitely buy a Brit Guide, and most definitely spend hours on here and on Disney and Universal websites studying park maps to determine the must do attractions. That way you’ll stand half a chance of doing what you want to do…. 14 days is never enough …… 😉

Thank you. My husband is up in the air as he wants to do ten days but I'm pretty set on 14. I feel with two teenagers with sen issues ten is going to be too short to get them around without sensory meltdowns x

I am working on a plan right now for a friend with sensory issues. I normally only go for around a week, but I know that will be too short for them. I've settled on 12 nights as a sweet spot. 3 nights Universal (2 park days) then 9 at Disney - 6 of which will be in the parks. It also gives the weekend after we return to relax and slowly get back to normal life routine.
If it helps, here is my rough plan... Sunday - Travel day, check into Universal hotel Mon-Tue - Universal parks, mostly for HP stuff Wed - Down day, bit of shopping, transfer to Disney hotel Thu-Fri - Disney park days (MK and HS) Sat - Down day, possibly a water park or resort hopping Sun-Mon - Disney park days (AK and Epcot) Tue - Down day at Disney Springs Wed-Thu - Disney park days (MK + one flexible - whichever park they want to revisit) Fri - Check out day, just relax at resort Because they aren't interested in the rides at UOR (just wants to see the HP stuff) I didn't feel like I needed more time there. Probably could do just one day but was expecting some overwhelm and jetlag in the first couple of days (would also be their first trip) so think these will only be half days in the parks. Definitely won't see it all in that length of time, but especially when allowing for extra downtime. But they're happy to just get the highlights of each park. ETA: Also, I'm assuming they're neurodivergent - make sure you get the disability passes at both parks. It's called DAS at Disney, AAS at Universal. It allows you to get return times for rides with long queues so you can wait somewhere quieter to avoid meltdowns. Just visit guest relations when you first get there, explain they have sensory issues and they'll sort out a pass that's valid for the rest of your stay. Edited at 10:08 AM. |

14 days is only enough to do some of all of it. There are four Disney parks and two water parks. You cannot do everything in any irk in one day without a lot of planning and a lot of luck and certainly not for 10
Consecutive days you will hit the wall. Then there are two Universal parks that need three days hard park touring to cover everything plus a water park. So just to hit everything once is 9 days without a rest. Which isn’t fun or possible. Now. That said. I’ve done a several 9 night ‘extra’ trips with just my daughter and we love it. But we definitely have to choose what we focus on.

Its quite a way from Disney world to Universal. Have you thought of doing a split stay to make use of the Universal park hours for hotel guests? If your going on the first couple of days you will be up early too so this could be a bonus as queues to the rides are long once the park opens to day trippers. Have a look at the busy day guide there are some good YouTube shows to check out too. We're going next September too

We have only been to Disney once I have just booked again for August 2022.
When we went the first time I had 2 children aged 11yrs and 9yrs plus a baby we only did Universal for 1 day we had the Express tickets and did a lot but not all of it I think we will book a 3 day pass for next year as we will be doing the water parks this time My advice to you going for the first time is Plan Plan Plan! I planned everything from what park we were going to go to and then what restaurants we ate in and what rides to head to first, by doing that we had such a great holiday and managed to see so much! You are going to absolutely love it what every you do, it really is a magical place |
