Festival Place in Basingstoke- lots of high St kind of shops, only just over an hour I think from London Waterloo on the train and the station is a short walk from the 2 shopping centres (The Malls with a few shops then leads into Festival Place)
I'd say Lakeside over Bluewater if you go that way and want non designer.

slightly OT but how have these centres faired post covid

i went to the metro centre a coupe of nights ago to pick something up for my mrs and it must be 1/4 empty / not open units... not helped by the massive debenhams & house of fraser both being closed...

the cinema/eateries seemed busy but no the shops

There are loads of empty units in Westfield White City, it’s sad to see. My local town centre, Uxbridge has lost loads of good shops in the last year.

meanwhile, here in nottingham...

itv/news/central/202...urban-designer

i also walked through victoria centre recently, and there were a LOT of empty shops there too. i just dont get it. i can count on one hand the number of shops i would want to go to in there. i'd much rather shop in hockley or an area where we have independent, locally owned shops, rather than giant corporations running chain stores and paying massive rent to intu/whoever and selling variations on all the same stuff made by kids in indonesia
