if i were separated from the rest of my family it would ruin the start of my holiday & i would like things to go as perfectly as possible after paying all this money on a holiday! ..i would & have paid, and wouldn't wish to be like you right now, someone who is obviously worrying already about it! My suggestion would be pay and relax!

Airlines are so wrong putting this extortionate extra cost on. I haven't ever paid and we have all been sat together. This time flew with United - no charge

No way would I let my children sit by themselves, they are 8 and 11 and they would be totally freaked out if they were not with us, I think they would be crying etc.
I pay but think it stinks ! |

You expect the airline to move other people around - people who might have paid for their seats - to accommodate you?
To respond to OP: I would pay - as others have said its a safety thing or what if he gets poorly?

They will try to sit families together, but there's no guarantee. My DD was first separated (if only on a short haul flight) at about 2 or 3: nothing we could do, it was a full flight and nobody wanted to move.
If it would be a disaster for your husband to be separated from you on the flight, I'd pay; if it would be acceptable (if not ideal), I'd take my chances. EC |

I'm with the majority in that I would definitely pay too. My DD will be 8 next time we go, and I couldn't bear her being even in the row in front of me. She would be uncomfortable and unsettled, as would I. If I'm paying thousands to go to Florida, £150 isn't worth the upset imo. It's a personal decision though.

I dont think they are expecting anyone to move for them ,They are sitting where they have been told to sit .If the airline splits them up who do the airline expect to take responsibility for the child ? If they expect the parent they should sit them together and not expect them to pay extra to do so . If not the parent then who ? It would be interesting to see the airlines take on this .

I think this is a horrible money making scheme by airlines forcing families being terrified by not sitting next to young children to pay expensive supplements for the 'luxury' to garuntee this. If nobody paid I'm sure we would all be sat next to those who we booked with! It would also mean that people would be more likely to swap seats for those who need it for whatever reason because they have not paid for that seat and would not have a sense of entitlement to it.. rant over!

Just to repeat: join Flying Club and select seats 72 hours out.
I don't believe it is worth the stress of leaving it until the day before when you have children. |

We didn't pay and I joined the flying club which allowed us to reserve seats all together 72 hours before the flight. Instead of the 24 hours before. I kept a eye on the seat website and never was worried about the way the ore booked seats were selling. I went on line bang on 72 hours and had loads of choices. Even now I could change them and still get 4 together
