Mobile Travel to airport same day

Hi all, can you give me an opinion on whether driving from Swansea to Gatwick on the same day as we fly is a good idea for the 1pm flight.

I've always stayed the night before and benefited from the twilight checkin with virgin. Saving the hotel cost the night before and potentially a days parking etc sounds like a plan but I'm nervous about the same day idea 😐

We always travel to the airport the day before if the flight is before mid afternoon.

We're flying from Gatwick at 11:35 and traveling from Cardiff. We've booked a hotel the night before as we don't want to risk hitting an accident at the Brynglas funnels. I'm sure you're aware what mess that can cause. For peace of mind, I'd rather be pasted them the day before

Having driven around all the major motorways during my working life and experiencing being closed for many hours following accidents I would never dream of driving on the day of our flight.

Can think of nothing worse than being trapped with nowhere to go and counting the hours down to the flight.

Staying overnight is part of the holiday build up for us. A nice dinner, relaxing sleep, hearty breakfast and a stroll over to the terminal

Mick

Unless it's a night flight, I always travel down the night before.

We live in Kent, have a lunchtime flight and wouldn't consider going up same day. We had a taxi the first time we went to America and travelled up same day for a similar time flight. I was a nervous wreck all the way in case there were delays. It only takes one bad accident and the road can be closed for a couple of hours. Have a much better sleep as well when we're at the hotel the night before

We travel fron cardiff and always go the night before as I would be a nervous wreck if I left it till the day we travel. Coming back from Gatwick on one of ours trips took us 12 hours due to accidents could just as easily happen going up to Gatwick. If you catch a Premier inn sake you can get a room for £35

I'm flying from Gatwick at 1pm and travelling from just outside Newport. I've booked a hotel for the night before as I find it less stressful than doing the trip on the day.

Definitely the day before. My nerves couldn't cope with the stress. Only once have we risked it on the same day and that was from Leicestershire to Heathrow for a flight round about lunchtime. There was an accident on the M1 and I think we got to check in about 5 minutes before they closed it. Never again!
