There IS a safe side and that's to renew and as I said previously, you're credited with the unexpired portion of the old passport. Your new ESTA will be valid for another two years of course.

I didn't risk it last year but I knew my passport was valid for when I landed in the USA. It was one less worry for me.
You are completely incorrect. As I stated a passport is either valid or not valid. It can't be more valid. Once again there has never, never been a single dibber who has experienced an issue getting into the USA with less than 6 months on their passport. There is no point in causing concern.

The real problem with what you are saying is suggesting that people with a valid ESTA given that up to renew a passport which doesn't need renewed and therefore have to get a new ESTA.

I wonder if it's worth having this subject as a sticky - might save money for people who don't need to renew their passports, rather than some of the scaremongering in threads like this.

Just thought I would let you all know that I booked my trip through Kenwood travel this afternoon and asked them about my passport and the girl I spoke with told me that it didn't need to have 6 months on it. She advised 90 days and ok thats not quite right but on the day i travel my passport is actually valid for 6 months! lol! It is however a little more accurate than the other travel agents I have spoken with!

Bit more accurate but you still don't need 90 days.

At least 90 days is a valid figure in relation to an ESTA... it's the time you're allowed to stay for, if allowed in !

Crazy subject, I don't get the fuss on why people say the renewed for peace of mind, it's their choice regardless of whether the have to or not.

My passport expired in July and I travelled in May on a new passport, my previous trip was September so by definition I didn't need to renew but seen as I was travelling again in September it left me a decision whether to renew and get a new ESTA 8 months early or hold off and get one with 3 months left. Everyone's situation is different.

It may be a crazy subject for some. But for others who are new to the forums or traveling to Florida it's a legitimate question for them.

Rob, I don't disagree with you. What gets me is many who mean well ridicule folk for renewing when they have time left, everyone's situation is different. All folks have to say is you didn't have to renew but at least your sorted. All this talk of renewing being nonsense or daft is patronising to many especially new or infrequent posters on the dibb

Firstly I havn't seen a single post which has been nasty to anyone who has renewed. All that has been said is that legally it is unnessary and may cause an ESTA refusal.

Secondly everyones situation is not different. It is the same rules for all of us with a UK passport. It only needs to be valid for the proposed length of trip. This is not a grey area. Its a fact.

For people to come on here and scaremonger is what I find dreadful. You do not need to renew. People of course can choose whatever option rocks their boat. However, what cannot be said is that there is any sort of risk by travelling with a passport with less than 6 months on it.

I didn't say anyone was nasty I said they were patronising.

Did you read my post previous to the one you quoted. Some people's situations are different and I gave an example of it and I'll give examples, assume today as January 1st

Dibber 1

Passport expires 1st September next trip August and the trip after is September. What would you advise?

Dibber 2
Passport expires 1st September and their next trip is August. What would you advise

You see my point?
