We know someone on this flight and it was indeed a tech issue. They were put on MAN-(a London airport)-PHL-Tampa, and put up in a manchester hotel overnight, but not at the airport, in the city

We are staying at heald green PI and are getting a taxi to the airport about 8, it takes 10 minutes to get to the airport. I am thinking of booking fast track security as its £12.50 for the 3 of us.

We haven't! But essentially the flights were free with the compensation we got for the delay so can't complain.

Intrigued now what the tech issue was - I swear the landing gear coming down took waaaaay longer than it should do, usually it's a clink and a whirr and it's done but this went back and forth for ages.

Just glad whatever it was was spotted, feel sorry for the people delayed though it's such a rubbish start to your holiday

Can I ask if they have told you your compensation already? If so, can I ask how much?

Standard compensation under EC261 would apply which is EUR600 per passenger for a delay of this length.

I'd heard that AA were resistant to pay out but my claim for a flight on same route that was just over three hours delayed was approved very quickly.
