Passport Dilemna

Hello,

We're not quite sure what to do about my husband's passport! We both have ESTAs from 2016 that are in date, so we weren't planning on getting new ones. However we've realised my husbands passport will expire in May, and I've heard a few people mention about needing 6 months on your passport!

I've checked on here, the government advice and on the Thomas Cook passport and visa guidance you get emailed, and all state your passport needs to be in date for the duration of your trip which is fine, but I've heard a few horror stories about people being denied on the check in desk!

We can get him a new passport with the quick service, and then cross our fingers the esta gets approved in time but obviously this might be a) a huge risk and b) an unnecessary expense. I'm curious to know what everyone else would do?

Thanks!

You don't need 6 months for the USA. When we flew in April 2016, both of our children's passports expired in the May and it wasn't a problem at all

It is just that ‘ a story’. There is no requirement to have six months left. There was a mile long thread not so long ago if you search the forum.
We travelled with less than six months to go - no problem.
It just needs to be valid in date for your trip. If it expires a week later then that’s fine

Assuming British Citizen Passport there’s no need for six months on passport. You or anyone else with the same status will not be denied boarding at check in .

Have a look here

For UK citizens you only need to have valid passport for dates of travel

You don’t need it. I travelled to US a couple of years ago with a couple of months left before expiry and had no problems whatsoever.

I can't add anything to all the preceding correct responses.

Especially as he has a valid ESTA as well as a valid passport. Please leave both alone.

Hi, I had a problem with my passport. We travelled on the 21st of December to MCO, my passport runs out March 18th. I was spoken to by the immigration officer and said because I didn't have 90 days on my passport I would be fined 585 dollars and he had every right not to allow me in the country, luckily he let me off, I was told I needed to be out of the country by the 1st Jan or their would be a warrant for my arrest.
when we looked online for any information we couldn't find anything .
