Just Flown Air Canada.
Hi, for anyone travelling United or Air Canada, we just arrived back today and I'd like to share our thoughts We usually travel on Virgin Atlantic…so I will try to make some comparisons.
1st review. Air Canada. We flew Heathrow - Toronto Pearson - Orlando International The long haul plane was a 777-300ER and it was a modern looking plane with the mood lighting. The colours changed throughout the course of the flight from blue to reds and oranges. I can't say it particularly affected my mood, but it was pleasant to see. The seats seemed large and spacious and by economy standards, my long legs had ample room. The flight attendants were friendly and approachable. They were constantly up and down the aisles with drinks, big 330ml cans of Coke/Sprite etc…no diddy little cans. Glasses of water and alcoholic beverages. In fact, I've never used a loo so much on a plane before. The drinks services were practically non-stop. I don't know if it was a disabled facility I used, but the loo was HUGE…a lot more space than I've seen on previous flights with any company. The meals were nicer than Virgin in my personal opinion. Shortly after our 8.30am and on-time take off, we had crepes filled with cinnamon apples, fresh fruit, juice and bread and jam…all were yummy. Then through the flight we had pretzels and a hot chicken fajita pastry, like a pasty type of thing that was delicious! The entertainment on the plane was good. I watched 'Terrible Bosses 2' and 'The Judge' and both films were enjoyable. We were given earphones…the ear bud style, which I wasn't too keen on, but as I'd forgotten my own headphones I had to make do. ADVICE: REMEMBER YOUR OWN HEADPHONES! One thing that struck me was that the views from the window seats were amazing. Going to Canada you see Greenland and all the snowy mountains and ice filled seas. There are no cities or lights to see and the views were spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed the flight and it seemed short at 7 1/2 hours. Connecting through Toronto was a breeze. We followed the signs which led directly to the US customs area. We scanned our passports, waited in the waiting area for about 10 minutes. When our names went up on the overhead screens we proceeded through to the customs officers, who checked our passports and let us through. We followed the signs through security and bag checks again with hardly any queuing or wait times and then went down the escalator into the departure lounge area where we had a Starbucks and a snack/nap whilst waiting for our connection. The connecting flight was on a smaller plane, where only drinks were free and food was available for purchase. There were no TV screens, so we all had to read! lol. You could apparently use an IPAD to watch inflight entertainment, but this was too faffy for me. I fell asleep. DH read and DS chatted to the little boy opposite. The flight was just a few hours and was comfortable enough. Again, flight attendants were really friendly and pleasant. We landed at Orlando International more or less on-time and went straight through to bag collection! No customs yay! It was great to have avoided those immense queues. Our bags arrived quite slowly, but we soon collected them and were off out of the airport in no time. Would I fly Air Canada again? Absolutely. The ONLY thing I preferred about Virgin was the convenience of a direct flight, but the indirect flight was a lot less hassle than I envisaged and it broke up the flying a bit too. Plus the savings of nearly £1000 per person, more than made up for the extra six hours it took to get to Orlando from the UK. Hope someone finds this helpful and I'll do a quick review of United tomorrow

Sounds very promising, thanks for that. I am considering that route next time we go and was wondering what it was like. Time wise it might almost be the same for us as it takes longer to get to Gatwick than heathrow and we stood for over 2 hours in the immigration queue at orlando last time we went. Very interesting. Thank you

Sounds like a great flight. Foot to know you also clear immigration If you stop in Canada, we enjoy this aspect of an indirect flight but normal travel through Philadelphia. Saw some good prices with air Canada for our dates before we booked so it's good to hear a fab experience, will consider these in the future.

I flew with Air Canada 2 weeks ago... although my final destination was actually Canada and not the US.
The food on Air Canada was the best food I have ever eaten on an economy flight! Due to heavy snow at our destination we were rerouted to Toronto and Air Canada were fab. We got to Toronto and were issued straight away with a hotel reservation, food vouchers for the evening, breakfast the next day and vouchers for food/drink/snacks to be used the next day or whenever we next fly from a large airport. Very efficient and I recommend them in good times and when things go wrong. |

What a great review, and I'm so happy as we are booked for Air Canada in October.
I have been a bit worried as the flight times have changed twice now giving us a longer stopover in Toronto. We're flying from Dublin and the last time I checked they had changed the plane from Air Canada to Rouge which means a smaller plane outbound and no entertainment but we all have iPads so not a problem really. Thanks again |
