Well loved and well used Kindle ... going wrong now?

Has anyone found their 3-4 year old Kindle is beginning to show its age? I use mine absolutely every working day: to work, in my lunch break and then home again.

The problem is, I'm finding more and more that when I press the 'next page' button it's skipping 2 pages. You can see it's doing it because instead of the next page coming up immediately, you see a messy pulse as it quickly load the next page and then jumps to the one after that.

Is it worth getting it fixed (assuming it is fixable), or shall I start thinking about consigning it to 'Silicon Heaven' (reference to Red Dwarf)?

The thing is, I could buy a new one with a touch screen for about £80 at the moment, BUT I do have my iPhone which I could use as a reader - but that means flattening the battery entirely every day - and I have an iPad Mini, but it's more than twice the weight of the Kindle, and my handbag is heavy enough already.

Any thoughts?

Mm electronics! I think they all come now with a little person inside who after 2 years or so kills them!

I have had my Kindle for 4 years and its still fine - touch wood but I dont use it anywhere near as much as you have. Its sometimes used in the evening if I have found a book to download I like and on vacations 3 times a year.

OP. For the use you have had I have to say its probably time for a new one, probably not worth the cost of a repair sadly

I would try contacting Amazon customer services.

They're really super helpful, and you may find they're able to offer a repair or a replacement even though it's an older model

I think Amazon let you buy a discounted one if yours goes wrong outside of warranty, so definitely worth contacting them to see.

DH got money off a new one when his screen was cracked because it couldn't be repaired. I got a Kindle at launch and it died about a year ago - suddenly wouldn't hold a charge and was unresponsive. I think the issue was actually the leather case but DH bought me a paperwhite and it's great.

My paperwhite did the same. I did a hard reset (Google it, you need to hold the button down for an exact time... I can't remember what it is!). It is now back to working as it did.

Tesco has had a offer on the first touch screen version (the one after mine but the one before the Paperwhite) for only about £50. It's smaller and lighter than mine, but that also means my nice leather case won't fit.

I'd love a Paperwhite, but it's nearly £100 and, as I said, I do have the two alternative Apple products I could use as readers.

I'll try and get hold of Amazon CS and see what they say - but I won't hold my breath!

Definitely worth contacting Amazon customer services if all else fails. Hope you get it sorted.
I love my Paperwhite, got it in Orlando for cheaper than here although the exchange rate was good then!
