Yes, since writing the post the later versions of the uk seem to now support this feature so maybe no need for the USA app by default, though the USA app does show the connected services on the car if installed where the uk does not for me at present with the car I have got on the drive.

Rick, just reading your OP again and notice you mention the guy saying they gave you the car seats free as a preferred member... are you aware of any promotion that gives this or do you think it's likely happened as you called them on it?

No, if was trying to scam /pull a fast one on me I think seeing the kids in the back on car seats and none on my booking and putting 2 and 2 together and getting 55, slip of his tongue then trying to cover up his misjudgement after I caught him waffling.

There's no free promo.. Take your own is my advice.

Things for me to do / check I think are :

4) Absolutely100% Ensure that the receipt they give me at the exit barrier shows $0 to pay (unless I have accepted the pre-paid fuel), although I have seen people say that the full price may show on there and to accept that it's just because BA have yet to settle the bill and it will be done by the time we return the car, do i just accept that?

5) don't get lost in Miami and go the wrong way like last time

OLS don’t leave the garage unless it shows $0.00. We flew into Tampa last year and had a horrendous time with Avis (a lot of people seemed to who had been to Tampa) and I came home to a massive bill on my credit card. I got it back but took nearly a couple of months. They said I was charged extra as because my flight was delayed I had missed my slot and the extra charge was the difference in price tariff from when I should have picked to when I did. Not sure how a £600+ bill comes from having the car less time!

Update on my Avis App experience.
Arrived LAX today, when collected luggage and got to area of airport with WiFi I opened app and was offered a selection of cars - none had been allocated to me and I don’t think any were the Ford Edge class I booked (W, I think - been a long day!). Some were MiniVans like Pacifica & Dodge Caravan with huge upgrade costs of $1300 plus.
I didn’t choose anything and went to Avis garage. There I was offered a Nissan Pathfinder so asked if they had anything American and got offered a Buick Enclave - next class up apparently. Took a look and it seems all good. 7 seats, apple car play, auto boot etc. Not sat nav but has a one star system I haven’t worked out. Seems a really decent car so I’m happy enough.
App was useless - but the guy at the garage did say they were really busy and I think maybe they had just not managed to allocate cars. My name was on preferred board but no car - just directed to the booth.

Buick Enclave will support car play or andriod auto, so you can use google maps instead of onestar.

Quick update..

Returned the car to AVIS - the slip in the garage confirmed full tank of fuel, the app also showed the fuel in the car was 31.0 gallons too, when i picked the car up it had 31.3 gallons of fuel in it, i asked the rep in the garage if that would be a problem and she said no, they give 1 gallon grace.

My AVIS receipt in the garage detailed $0.00 total, my avis receipt via email the same and also on the app, so i am not expecting any further chargers to my card. (plus didnt drive on any toll roads while there either.)

All in all, a good experience with Avis, i drove a total of 1500 miles too at an AVG MPG of 14.2.
