My partner calls me VMO (vee-moh) after BMO, the gameboy character from Adventure Time. His name is James but JMO doesn’t really work so I called him MoMo instead. That somehow morphed into Memow, which has stuck for about 9 years. It feels weird to call him by his first name now, though he sometimes gets a bit miffed if I call him Memow in front of his mum! He has lots of other weird names for me, the strangest being “good creb” (not crab- creb!), “plumpkin” and “Buttleby the Scrivener”! I just smile and nod 😂
My best friend’s parents called her Squibble Bibble. Her brother was called Oaf which was a bit cruel but honestly very apt 😅 My cats are called Rocket and Captain. Rocket has become Rocketeer and Captain has become Cappy. They both answer to each other’s names 🤦 |

I call my husband Lish, and our son by default became The Lish when he was born and we refer to him that way to each other all the time. My car is the lish mobile as my dh bought it for me. My name was shortened to Lol by my Mother, Dad and siblings, Im not sure how or why, I never liked it, but now only my brother is left I am fond of it. However the dog, who is called Chewie gets called Bocca, The Bocca, Boccus, Boccus pommus, Booca-pom, chewie the bocca chew, chooby, chooby-dooby, choob, chewie the chew, pom, pomalom and pom-a-lom-alom and the uninventive chew... and he answers to all of them 🥰

All the family are involved in roller derby and we all have 'derby names'. They are like alter egos so have a great deal of importance to a lot of folks in the derby community. DW is Blaise (Blaise of Glory), DD1 The Swarm, DD2 Hunni Basher (originally Hunni Bash 'er) and when I was managing I became Smashton Martin.
We often meet up with people and they all call me Smash. Several folks only know DW as Blaise and after several years still don't know her real name. All of this is quite fun, but none of us have pet names for each other. I appear to be the only one with a pet name in the family and it's what the grandkids call me. DGS1 was originally to call me Grampy, but he could only pronounce Grampsy. When DGD1 was born, we tried to get her to call me Grampsy, but she could only manage Sassy. Much to my embarrassment the next two have also called me this. It's quite sweet that they all think of me as Sassy and DGS1 has also adopted Sassy occasionally, although I think he prefers Grampsy still. The worst is when DGD1 comes into the pub and upon seeing me shouts "Hi Sassy!" I do so love the regulars all smiling and saying "Sassy?". I know there will be a couple of weeks of beers being ordered from Sassy after each incident |
