Wish me luck.
Let me just share with you a little info. In August I was sent a letter that most women of a certain age receive to attend a clinic for screening. Went on the day not having a clue what was involved. No idea what would happen afterwards. Suffered through the process which left a little pain and went home. Just after started noticing some bleeding and thought maybe something got nipped or pulled too much. Put up with the pain and took pain relief . The bleeding got worse, so I thought maybe work tasks were aggravating whatever was going on. Before I knew it September was almost at an end and things were not improving so I made an appointment to see the GP a lovely lady doctor who referred me for further investigation. Another two test a done at the local hospital and they asked me to go see the specialist at Durham.. ok not having a clue where exactly where I was going I got booked in. On the day of the appointment the weather was lousy and the 3 network crashed. Thank goodness for maps. I had an idea where to go and boy was the walk long and steep. An hour and ten minutes after arriving more tests done and I got sent home. Another two weeks went by and the hospital rang could I get back up and see the consultant again. Sure where I was going I went again with DH for more tests and again sent home. Then another two weeks later can I come back and see the specialist once more .. yes again I went alone since DH was on night shift. I got the news I have a lump in my breast inside the ducts and abnormal fluids. So he wanted to operate and asked me to consent to surgery. I came home after signing the forms another two weeks went by and they said when my date was going to be.. tomorrow. It took until last week with no more information I thought this is so odd.. no pre-op appointment came through. So by Friday just gone I rang them ...at the hospital that’s doing my surgery they didn’t seem very organised and asked it I had been up for blood work and MRSA screening .. no.. oh right.. can you come up ?... no I don’t drive we live miles away and rely on public transport. The woman on the phone seemed a little distracted and asked some more questions. So seeing the conversation was going nowhere I asked if it would help to get the blood work done at the GP surgery with one of the practice nurses.. Oh yes and ask them to email them up ! ( This is ridiculous) So blood work done etc and back off to work I went. Then yesterday they rang me could I go up and collect a prescription for some MRSA antibiotics? Nope no transport and I couldn’t take the day off work to get up there and back (2 hour journey each way) to collect them. Oh well we’ll sort something out when you get here. I’m thinking “Seriously what the heck”! So now I’m prepping an overnight bag just in case things don’t go quite according to plan. We have planned our journey up there( yes DH is coming with me) and sort of have a plan for getting home again.
DS is going to look after the cats for me, he knows I’m going for surgery tomorrow. I’m just feeling anxious and stressed about it all. It’s been a challenge trying not to overthink things. I don’t have good memories of the last few times I’ve had a general anaesthetic. It’s going to be a very strange Christmas and New Year not working and spending the next two weeks recovering.
