My son has been to Thurston with the school and he had the best time. He has therefore asked to go to Coniston for his birthday *April. I have been looking at Crake Valley. Anyone know much about it,is there things nearby to do?

In Coniston there is a steam boat trip, the Gondola. Also boat hire and launches across to Brantwood and round the lake. The. Bluebird cafe is lakeside where Donald Campbell left from

Tarn houses lovely too for a nice gentle flat walk around the tarn. Hawkshead is just around the corner as is Grizedale forest for cycling go ape etc. x

A walk to the top of the Old Man is excellent and surprisingly gruelling. My 15 year old in particular loved that. You do need decent weather. We went up in May half term heatwave so hot up early. I went halfway up last December on a good day but the top was cloud covered.

Plus you can take the drive over hardknott pass/wrynose pass. This is an adventure in itself :-)
