Procrastination

How good (bad?) are you with procrastination, and how do you tackle it?

I've got a task to do that should take no more than an hour, but I hate doing it. As such I've not done it for three weeks now.

But, as I've decided that it's absolutely the next thing I have to do, I've essentially done nothing for three weeks. Well, nothing productive anyway. There are a gazillion posts from me on here over that time period that evidence that.

Every night it's a case of "right, tomorrow morning I will get that done first thing" and then... nothing.

It's 10:22 as I type. It could have been finished two hours ago and I could be sitting here basking in what I absolutely know will be the warm glow of successfully completing this ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ task.

Can anyone out-procrastinate me?

It's actually invoicing so will lead to people sending me money.

But it's for a particular group of companies that all have weird and wonderful individual invoicing requirements that just drive me mad. I'll almost certainly get at least one wrong as a result.

My accountant does the tax return. Which is a good job as I'd probably be in prison by now for not doing it.

I'll time you to do it... Ready Steady Go!

(Well it used to work on my kids to get them to do things they didn't want to do)

I'm the king of procrastination. I retire early next year and I'm convinced one day I'll be discovered under a mountain of dust sat on the sofa as Netflix scrolls through suggested programmes in the background.
Just reading posts from active retirees such as Mr Morrow leaves me exhausted.

That has highlighted the utter hypocrisy that I practice.

When Bozza, Jnr has homework he doesn't want to do, I'll stress that its best to "eat the frog" (explained here if you've not heard the phrase before: todoist/productivity-methods/eat-the-frog) whilst I just completely ignore the frog.

Today, the frog shall be mine (even though Mrs B is still Covid-free, so back at work, and I'm the home teacher again).

Bozza, is there nobody you can delegate this task to, purely in the name of self development for them of course!

Ahhh, the good old frog. An analogy I was introduced to by a mentor a few years back. I'd completely forgotten about it too, so thanks for the reminder.

So, have you dined yet?!
