If I went to Southern California for no other reason at all, it would be to drive the PCH between Monterey and Pismo Beach.
To be honest, the bit I struggle with most are all of the abbreviations used for WDW and all of the resorts, attractions, dining etc 😂 Edited at 10:00 AM. |

Hi Kate, I think itinerary looks great. I have not done Mammoth or San Diego so cannot comment on either.
If you are comfortable with the driving then this for me is one of the highlights of the trip. Some absolutely amazing drives in there even without PCH. Death Valley, Toga pass, the drive past mammoth, getting onto Route 66 on the drive between LV and Santa Monica. Always plan these, and generally give a little more time than what google maps may say. Get a music playlist sorted before the holiday, and make sure you note were the Starbucks are near beginning of each trip and also gas stations (think I used gas buddy). Get the Yosemite accommodation booked early and stay in the valley. Absolutely amazing.

The drives are easily do'able, the longest one being either Monterey to Yosemite or LV to Santa Monica. We did both these drives on our trip and it was no problem, my only comment would be to review your one night stays, I would drop a day at Mammoth and add to Monterey. We use 1 night stays as a stop off only, eg you will not have a full day in Monterey, arrive and check in in the afternoon, pack up and check out in the morning to drive to the next destination.
Maybe drop the over night stay in death valley unless thats on your must list, Mammoth to LV is easily drive-able (we did Bishop to LV on our trip) Edited at 04:19 PM. |
