Which area to stay in Palm Springs?
We are switching around our California trip this New Year and removing Disneyland from the itinerary as I don’t want to pay out for tickets which I need to buy in order to reserve parks on New Year’s Eve. So we are going to stay 3 nights in Palm Springs but it seems such a widespread area looking on Expedia maps. Is it better to be in the downtown area or is Indian wells a better choice? We would ideally be near to some restaurants etc to go out and eat. Is there any unsafe areas at all?
Thankyou |

Stay in down town area - most restaurants etc are situated around Indian and Palm Canyon but some, like Spencer, are just a short walk away. Downtown has lots of hotels around that area and you will want to catch the weekly street fair which really is pretty good. I dont like Cathedral City but go to the Mary Pickford cinema there - I dont this its unsafe per se but it has more of a run down feel about it with cheaper motels and thrift stores and not much in terms of nightlife I know off. New Year’s Eve in Palm Springs is fun - they have a firework display off the roof of a central hotel but events get booked up really quickly - however it wont be crowded and you will get into restaurants and bars without reservations as I have done that many times. Its great to feel the relative warmth while seeing in the New Year

I don’t know what it’s like as my booking was cancelled this year but after quite a bit of research I’d booked a suite at Kimpton Rowan which is fairly new and has a nice rooftop pool. I may book it again if MF doesn’t tell me I’d made a bad choice.

Excellent choice and that is where they set off the fireworks from. Also great Roof Top NYE party
(If you like Italian restaurants then Il Corso next to the hotel is superb (American Italian) ) Edited at 09:35 PM. |

Thanks- I’ll book it again then if we reschedule to go next year. Problem is we need to do New Orleans (daughter’choice), we have vouchers for internal flights and son wants to go to Vegas, and I’m hoping to book Grand Californian again (2 cancelled trips) plus LA, and Mrs YT doesn’t think she’ll get the 3 weeks off next year so Palm Springs may have to go….. shame as it’s 20 years since I last went😩

Happy planning and ask away. Many PS experts on here that have fallen in love with the place (warning - you may too fall in love with it and it’s an expensive love affair to have !) - I also have many friends living there so if all else fails I can text any questions to them
