Tell us what your dream Palm Springs weekend would look like MF, for a first timer?

I’ve had a look on Expedia who we normally book with and there are only two places available for our dates that sleep a family of five.
The first is the Palm Mountain resort and spa… not bad reviews but looks like it has external doors which I’m not so keen on. The second is the courtyard by Marriott which is a bit further out on Canyon Way. There are plenty other hotels in other areas but only those for Downtown?
Marriott looks a bit nicer but perhaps not best for location?
Help!

The courtyard by marriott is rather basic but the location (if its the one I am thinking of) is near the art museum so isnt that far at all further down - less than 5 mins stroll . There will be others I am sure just dates not released yet . I dont know the Palm Mountain but having clear sight of the mountains during sun set is a must - they turn a pinkish hue (plus more chance of seeing a mountain lion or other wild life)

Not sure if I’ve uploaded this map or not!
It shows the three hotels available…. The one with the price in the white box is the Courtyard.

Gosh thats a loaded one . Depends on the season as summer is boiling and winter cool. But I guess if I was to arrive Friday evening from LA, dump bags into hotel and go to LuLu, sit at the bar (same menu as restaurant but cheaper and more fun) have a martini or 2 and some food then a wander down Arenas to some bars.
Saturday morning would be up at dawn to see the sunrise and swim then light breakfast then I would visit either the art museum (there are 3 of them) or drive up areal tram way. Coming back in time for lunch somewhere like El Mirasol then a wander around or back to hotel for sun and swim.
Evening cocktails start early in Palm Springs so showered, dressed and ready to hit at 5pm them dinner at one of many of my favourite restaurants - lets say Italians so I’ll Corso or Tony Romanos or more fun Tropicale is amazing - then I would meet old friends in Areanas area and back home (I am not a night owl).
Sunday would be up at sunrise and swim and read the papers while getting ready for a brunch at Spencer’s at noon - preferably out on their patio. A nice leisurely brunch then maybe a wander around downtown or a drive out to the desert or up the mountain (depending on how hot it is) and back intime for swim and rest. Maybe a lighter supper at say Sherman’s deli - another institution and see what entertainment is happening in PS - maybe a piano bar or local signer or, if its your bag (not mine) visit one of the local casinos . Wander back to enjoy the night sky with no light pollution and split shooting stars.
Monday maybe a drive out to Cabazon for some retail therapy stopping off on way back at the PS Air Museum which is really well worth a visit anytime. Back to swim, shower and change and off out to say La Vallauris which is such an amazing experience sitting under the trees dining or in the Gabor Sisters corner or Dinner at Melvyns - both worth doing once for the old California Movie charm (and to gave at the skill of the plastic surgeons )

How’s that for a starter ? All things I like to do on a visit - I do like wondering about a lot. PS is ideal for that unlike many other US cities and they mist the streets when hot

Edited at 11:39 AM. Reason: Spelling/typos

Oh that is a way out and not an unsafe area but one mainly of 99c stores etc. Its a bit far to walk for me - either int he heat of the day or at night. Personally I woundnt stay that far out (it is across from the hospital so I know the area as I have had Botox there lol)

Some hotels dont use booking search engines - it may not be for you but I stay in Warm Sands area and there are hotels there - it’s off Ramon and walkable for me but mostly a gay area. I know the hotels there (not all gay) dont use search engines as they are private individual ones (called resorts) - often were once homes of 1950’s Hollywood start with kidney shaped pools and just a handful of rooms

Also in PS everyone has to have been vaccinated to book a room or a restaurant now and need to show US approved proof

We will all be vaccinated but no idea if it’ll be US approved vaccines!
It all seems such a headache. I’m not sure what to do then really as we don’t have many options.

Have you tried booking 2 rooms with interconnecting doors or a suite with an extra bed ? It may be worth emailing a few hotels that you like the look of and asking direct

We like Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage area. I also like central Palm Springs, but haven’t stayed in the central bit.
Palm desert and rancho mirage are basically joined together. There are a decent amount of restaurants, The Living Desert zoo - which is great, a great 50m outdoor pool, lovely park, and lots of nearby hiking.
Lots to do in Palm Springs too. We’ve been three times- although not for about 5 years now.
