BA holidays cancellations - non covid reasons
I am supposed to be going to St Lucia in 2 weeks, we only booked it last week so only sorted out insurance a couple of days after that. Unfortunately now waiting for my daughter to see if she's fractured her foot which may mean we can't go. Insurance won't cover a cancellation as she did it last week just before we bought the insurance (I thought it was just a sprain), and won't cover her for it if we do go, so it would be too risky. And I'm always so careful with insurance, normally have an annual policy but wasn't needed this year!
Does anyone know how flexible BA are with changing dates or getting a voucher for non covid reasons? According to the website, it's a bit of a grey area as its within 3 weeks of travel. Having trouble getting hold of them at the moment! And waiting for the X-ray to know for sure |

I don’t think BA’s transfer policy has to be for Covid reasons.
You won’t get a refund but will get a full credit to rebook . That’s how I interpret it anyway for flights , accomadation may be a bit of a grey area) Give them a ring. Edited at 01:24 PM. |

that's a bit sharp practice by the insurance company for the foot when you thought it was a sprain!

Would you expect your car insurer to pay out for damage you did before you bought the policy? The injury happened before the policy was purchased.
OP, I’m sorry your holiday can’t go ahead, I bet you were looking forward to a trip away! The BA policy isn’t just for Covid reasons, so you can cancel and claim a voucher, though not a refund.

If it’s less than 3 weeks, and full balance is paid then I’m not sure you will get a credit! I thought it had to be changed/cancelled before the 3 week cut off. Hopefully I’m
Wrong though |

that's slightly different, people have sprains all the time and usually heal with no problems. Damage to a car is permanent. It's a bit like saying you had a cold the week you bought it and then a week or so later you develop a chest infection

I’d guess had a doctor had seen her and not felt an x Ray was needed it’d probably have been covered but without any medical footprint (and for a sprain most of us wouldn’t bother but self treat with rest and ice especially at the moment) the insurance company will take the injury from the date when medical advice was first sought.

It really is no different at all.
An Insurance company wont pay for something that happened before you had the cover. What is there to stop anyone hurting themselves and then taking out cover after so the Insurer will pay ? Its not "sharp" practice -its about as standard as you can get.

Thanks all. It's not a fracture they don't think, so just a sprain. Still have to declare as a pre existing condition though. I really hate getting insurance as I'm paranoid I'll get it wrong and forget a pre-existing condition and then not be covered. Didn't want to have to try and get hold of BA and beg for a voucher. Still, anything can happen in the next 2 weeks before we go!

My DS badly sprained his ankle a week before we went to Lanzarote in August. We did have insurance and it was only an extra £18 to be covered.
DS was on crutches for about a week but gradually improved. Make sure you ice and elevate it as much as possible, this really helped. |
