I think from your other thread I would be starting to smell a rat. They were extremely quick to let you know damage ( yet no photos) and now refusing a refund although they are cancelling on you. Something doesn't sit right . I hope you get sorted x

That cant be right...they have your money...they cant provide the service you have paid for therefore they need to give you back your money. What do they think they can put it towards their repairs. That is shocking. I would be livid and I am a very laid back person lol !

I am really surprised that a villa owner who you have paid to rent a villa from, is no longer able to fulfill their part of the contract as the villa is inhabitable but they still expect you to pay.

I am hoping our villa villa be okay to go to this week and if not, I expect a 100% refund.

I find it absolutely astounding that they are not prepared to give you a full refund. I'm sure if I was the villa owner I would also be trying to help you find another villa.

What a strange world we live in. If you booked into a hotel and the hotel became inhabitable, would people honestly expect the hotel to still charge them?

I am waiting to hear from our villa owner but don't want to contact them just yet, to give them time to asses an possible damage etc. I have, however, looked at the terms and conditions on their website and it does state that in circumstances beyond their control (lists them includes natural disasters) if they have to cancel they will try their best to find you suitable similar accommodation and if not they will give a full refund.

Someone we know switched their holiday away from Florida when their airline offered a change.
However, the owner of the villa they had booked is refusing to refund.
Surely villa owners have loss of income insurance for events like Irma.

Nope - that's on the person you know to have insurance which covers cancellation due to Acts of God. The villa owner has done nothing wrong - assuming the property is still habitable.

That's a completely different situation. The villa owner has no reason to refund if the guests have chosen not to go.

A villa I rented had a clause in the terms and conditions that state about hurricanes etc and that it is the renters responsibility to have insurance in force in case of cancellation as a result.

I have to completely disagree with you, because if the villa is available (hurricane or not), and you decide not to stay in it and holiday somewhere else, why should the villa owner lose money because you haven't turned up. I'm hopefully going to our villa 3 days late due to no fault of the villa owner and I wouldn't dream of asking him for 3 days refund. Even if we decide fo go somewhere else why should the villa owner give us our money back when the villa has been available for us to go it?
