I know it's ages away yet but my fiance soon to be husband wants to do a road trip for his 30th

So I started looking into it just briefly and now I physically cannot stop. I become quite obsessive when it comes to planning!

Thoughts on this as an itinerary...

San Francisco - 3 nights
Yosemite - 2 nights
Monterey - 1 night
San Simeon or Cambria or Pismo beach - 1 night
Los Angeles - 3 nights
San Diego - 2 nights
Las Vegas - 2 nights

Please give thoughts, critique, hotel ideas, and any absolute must do's.

I will be trawling trip reports and all things west coast for the foreseeable future

Thanks in advance
Grace xx

Lovely trip! But if it were me, I'd ditch either SD or LV and add one extra night to whichever city you kept. I'd normally choose SD of the two but for a 30th, I'd suggest keeping LV. You'll have more flight choices back from there as well.

I'd add the other night to Monterey since there's a lot to do in/around the town and it's also nice to get some decent rest before making the PCH drive. Alternatively you could do an overnight trip to the Grand Canyon while in LV.

I think that there’s a lot of driving and short stays for 14 nights. We did similar to you, but California only over 3 weeks and it was still a lot of driving.

I have never been to Las Vegas so cant personally comment but I would probably skip it and stay within California.

As others have said, one too many places for the number of nights.

Thanks all. Really appreciate the advice!

We went to Las Vegas in 2016 so maybe we will have to drop that. I did think it might be a bit too much but loved it so much there that was trying to just sneak everything in!

hi would suggest you look at a map and see which way round would suit best. most people do a circular route which eases driving

I went on an RV trip around California in September with my boyfriend and his family and it was amazing, definitely one of my favourite holidays, so first off i'm so excited for you!

We went for 14 days and stopped in Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, San Fran, Big Sur, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara and Anaheim and we spent 2 nights in all of them apart from San Fran. What we all said however is we'd have preferred much longer to explore each place so i'd take that into consideration because road trips are very tiring so trying to fit too much into your days there could knacker you even if it is an amazing experience

We actually used the website Road Trippers to plan our route and work out how many days we'd have in each location because it gives you the hours it takes to drive from place to place so defo check that out!
