VTP Question

We’ve never used this and just relied on the Alamo fitted transponder. The only issue we have is that the bills for tolls seem to dribble into the lodged credit card over quite a period of time. As we seldom use our credit cards it is a pain to have to keep checking for incoming charges.
So, to the question: if we get a VTP (now available in Terminal C) do we need to ‘deactivate’ the Alamo transponder in some way on pick up, or will the VTP hanger override the fitted transponder? We certainly don’t want to be charged twice!

There are no transponders in Alamo cars. They all work on the Toll by Plate system whereby the cameras pick up those who haven’t got a transponder and thus take a picture of the rear tag. That then generates the bill to Alamo and then to you.

Hanging the VTP on the rear view mirror will activate the SunPass system that you have a tag. Alamo is then cut out of the equation.

Make sure you enter the vehicle tag in the VTP app to make sure.

I went through 34 tolls last trip and every one was accurately picked up by VTP, no charges from Hertz at all.

I walked past the new VTP Machines in Terminal C 30 mins ago. Nobody using them but they are very easy to find. As per the post by Stanleycamel. Plus the slot to post the tag back in is easy to spot.

Ah, great. Misunderstanding on my part now clarified! Now they are available in C we’ll certainly go for one next trip. Thanks so much.

So am I right in thinking I can pick up the VTP at MCO and put it on our car when we pick up from the Disney car care centre 3 days later then just drive through the tolls

You can, but you will have to manually add the licence plate of your rental vehicle to the VTP app otherwise it won't work.

Can I ask a secondary question?
I’ve now downloaded the app successfully. There are lots of warnings about not accepting the hire company package for tolls. As we are using Alamo as, Mr Tom says, that is just pay by plate. So I’m assuming that the VTP hanging tag will override that and I don’t need to ‘not accept’ anything from Alamo?
I actually think that that is what Mr Tom said (so apologies!) but just checking.

I have just got back and used VTP for the first time with Alamo. I did not tell Alamo to deactivate anything and it looks like all tolls have been charged to my VTP.
