Any Washington DC recommendations
Starting to mentally plan a trip for when travel becomes a possibility!
Any recommendations of best areas to stay?any hotel recommendations? Never been before so want to visit all the main sights anything more unknown that anyone would recommend?would be two adults travelling. And last question is Dulles the best airport to fly into?

We have stayed at the State Plaza in foggy bottom. Great location and fab rooms. CVS next door and the White House a 5 minute walk at the end of the Street.
we have booked to stay at the Marriott nearby, purely for price but I'm guessing our September trip will be cancelled. Would recommend you do the big red bus hop on hop off tour it's a great way to get your bearings but most things are walkable with most museums and the zoo being free as they are part of the Smithsonian.

Have a look at the Hotel Harrington. The rooms are basic but it does have a great location/prices. You can walk to all the main attractions. Just minutes to the National Mall. It has a popular bar/restaurant.

I would really advise staying very central near the Mall as being able to walk out and access the White House, Capitol, monuments and all the museums is a real plus rather than traveling every time.
We stayed in the JW Marriot but there’s quite a few good hotels in that area.

I stayed in The River Inn in Foggy Bottom. Easy walking distance of The White House in one direction and Georgetown in the other.

Stayed at Sofitel which was excellent. There’s so much that is walkable in that area, the WH, Mall, museums, monument and memorials.
Also bought the multi day metro pass which was cheap and easy to use, and even goes out as far as Tyson’s Corner if you (like DW) like some serious retail therapy. Dulles is a fair way out but wasn’t that busy and easily negotiated. We pre-booked a car @$75 incl tip and in took 45 min. We flew home from Newark and took the Amtrak from Union Station. A first for us and really enjoyed the experience. |

We stayed at Capitol Hilton, few minutes walk from the White House. Metro stations couple of minutes walk in either direction for different lines. We ubered a bit in DC, from and to the airport, very easy.
My daughter stayed at State Plaza after summer camp last year, great price, big apartments/suites but a little further out. Stay as close to the Mall as you can, plan on lots of time at the museums and don't forget the zoo |

We stayed near DuPont Circle which we found a great location. We used the metro to get around but mostly walked.
We stayed in DC for a week and still didn’t see everything! The museums and monuments are all amazing. I’d recommend a night tour of the monuments which was just stunning and so atmospheric. We visited the Capitol, national archives, library of Congress, Supreme Court and Arlington as well as the monuments around the Mall (both at day and night) and a couple of the museums. Everything is fabulously maintained and mostly free. The history is just breathtaking. We saw the original Declaration of Independence, the original Stars and Stripes flag and so much more. Can’t wait for my next visit |
