Just returned a few weeks back... we stayed 2 nights at Housekeeping camp (in the valley floor next to the Merced River)... static tents in the camp that cost £75-00 per night... very basic but superb fun ... would deffo do it again ... amazing waking up early in the morning in the middle of nature with quite possibly the greatest sights you'll ever have literally at the end of your tent. We went in August and the Saturday was manic... queues everywhere... luckily we was already there and did not have to queue up to enter the park... saying that there was almost an hour queue to get into the Awanhee! Tip for the Glacier Point... try and get up there at sunset (or just before)... an amazing sight and experience.
Two days was enough but would have preferred to have spent a lot longer stopping off at a few places on the Tioga Pass when we was driving to Beatty (Nevada) ... some quite stunning places on that road... loved the stop off at a few of the ice lakes, stunning place.

Many thanks for this.
It is difficult trying to balance the tension between different places and how many nights at each.

We have been a few times with child and without. If you can get accommodation in the park then yes do it. But if not then take a look at yosemite cedar lodge or some of the hotels in Mariposa (lovely little place) or eakhurst. Both are on the approaches to the park. Oakhurst has a bigger choice of accommodation and places to eat. We stayed in the best western and that was idle. I would also consider which days of the week you intend to be at the park as some can be much worse then others.
