New York hotel resort fees

I've visited NY twice before, the last time being in 2014. I'm planning to go again with my DD next year. I'm really surprised to see resort fees on hotels like in Las Vegas. Are there any hotels that don't include this extra cost?

We stayed in The Metro hotel 2 years ago, booked with BA. We didn't pay any resort fees - and the cost of the room included breakfast. Nice location as well, very close to Empire State Building

We've stayed at both the New York Palace and Loewes Regency and neither charged a resort fee. Both fantastic hotels and would recommend either.

BA website says that bookings made to NY after 7th May will incur a compulsory destination fee ... luckily we booked before May so we won't have to pay
