what is your year 11 child doing in September?
Ds finally got around to applying for college and has been offer a place provisionally.
I'm hoping we might be able to do an actual visit over the summer before he starts as at the moment the only contact he's had has been the interview over the phone and he has no idea what to expect. |

DS is going to college to do a Btec level 3 in basketball studies and he’s going to be living there Monday to Friday. He’s so excited as two of his friends are already there doing the same course. We haven’t had a chance to look round yet but hoping they will release some tour dates soon.

My son is going to sixth form.
He’s applied to two - his current school which he’s had an offer for subject to getting the grades. The other school is closer as we moved house whilst he was in Y10 and he’s waiting for them to get his reference from his current school etc. The grades required are higher for the latter, but he hoping for an offer so he has options.

My Dd is going to art college, She went last week where they showed her around.
They are building a brand new art collage at the moment so she won’t actually go to the one she looked around but it was nice for her to go to the old one and meet a couple of students. Most of her friends are staying on at her school sixth form or to do A-levels at local colleges but Dd is doing something different, which I think is really brave of her after the weird year they’ve all had. She’s a little worried but knows it’s a right fit for her even though I know she’d rather be with her mates. Fingers crossed all goes well. 🤞🏼🥰 Kat

My son is going to college to do his C&G in Construction (trowel trades) with the second year specialising in Plastering - unless he changes his mind and prefers one of the other trades.

My son went to college in September having never stepped foot inside before his first day. The college isn’t even local to us as his course is studied at the campus 15 miles away. All of the kids were in the same situation and they were all absolutely fine. He loves his college and next year has chosen to stay there rather than do his second year at the campus down the road to us as he is so comfortable there.
Hopefully your son will be able to have a look around before he goes, sometimes they do very small tour groups if COVID allows and you can often go an enrol in person which will at least give him a visit there, even if not in every building. What is he studying? |

My son is staying at his school sixth form. He is taking maths, further maths, chemistry and physics A levels. I would prefer him to do 3 but his maths teacher wants him to do further maths too. Hopefully by Christmas he'll have a feel for them and drop the one he isn't as keen on.

He's doing creative media
I'm sure he'll be fine once he's settled but he gets really anxious in new situations. Not many college options for the course he wanted to do locally the closest one which is where he's going is about 45 mins travel a bus plus a 15-20 min walk which will take him some getting used to. |

This is exactly the same as my son. He is a very shy and anxious child who doesn’t like change. He was absolutely fine. It doesn’t stop you worrying, but I can say from going through it recently that they adapt so quickly.
My next (last) son starts in September and is raring to go - kids are all so different! |

Daughter is hopefully going to a sixth form college. She has an interview during Spring half term. She doesn't want to go to the school sixth form or local college so it will be a bit of a treck but it is her choice. She will be doing A Levels in Sport, joint English language/literature, and psychology.
