Magic band advice

Hi, we have magic bands from our last trip in 2019. They were added onto a family members account, however, when we go again (fingers crossed) later this year, the account holder isn’t going. Is it possible to set up a new account and then move the magic bands onto it?
Also, silly question, but how do you add a further magic band onto the account for a family member who hasn’t been previously

No, magic bands can't be transferred between MDE accounts. I'm guessing you were added as friends and family without separate accounts rather than as a linked member? If you were linked, your magic bands should be attached to your own account.

But either way, once you have new bands, there is an option to link them in MDE.

I always thought it was possible to do this, because I thought people sell used magic bands.

However, I can say I tried to reallocate one of my own bands from one MDE account to another but it wouldn’t work. I did wonder if it were just me though.

I always figured they sell used bands for people who like to collect the different designs and aren't worried about functionality. Like how people sell empty perfume bottles and designer shopping bags/boxes. Fairly useless, but collectors like them.

Specifically for MB2, you can also swap out the puck with one registered to you so someone may only want it for the actual band - particularly the limited edition designs.

But sadly, some probably do sell to unsuspecting people who don't realise they can't be transferred. There may even be some sellers may not even be aware themselves, especially single trippers clearing out their holiday stash.
