You seem to have most of your itinerary sorted. Ive just been going through the trip planning forum. Were doing ours from North to South so deciding where to stop between Yosemite and LA xx

It is years since I last did a West Coast trip but I really loved Carmel and Monterey.

We're planning 3 weeks. I have 3 nights SF, 3 nights Yosemite then I'm sort of stuck!
I'm thinking Monterey (whale watching is out, we've done it before), then I'm not too sure. I definitely want to do the toll road and Big sur, Solvang, Santa Barbara. Carmel( I know this is really close to Monterey) looks fab too, so realise its either there or Montereyand then Santa Monica before we end up in LA, Anaheim, San Diego, Gran Canyon then fly home from Vegas.
DH keeps reminding me its a holiday so would like to spend a couple of nights at least at some of the above so there isn't huge amounts of driving between stops. LA and Anaheim, im happy with 3 days at each to do universal, LA sights then DL etc. 2nights in vegas and either 1 or 2 nights in GC. I'm left with 5/6 nights between Yosemite and LA and/or SD. Any advice welcome xxx

Hi we would definitely stay in Monterey again, and would also do whale watching again. Monterey and Carmel actually run into each other so you can do both from same accommodation. Would probably do 2 n there 1 in cambria and 2 in Santa Barbara .
On the coast you can visit condor point , elephant seal beach at San Simeon, Hearst castle and in reality a photo opportunity around every corner.
Meant to ask how many in your party. Are you doing hotels or Airbnb.some great Airbnb on west coast, it’s where it all started.

If I was going again (and I will!) I would do
3 nights San Fran
3 nights Yosemite
2 nights Carmel or Pacific Grove (we had a wonderful Air BnB there)
1 night along the Big Sur - we stayed in Solvang last year so would probably choose Cambria next time
2 nights Santa Barbara - a definite, we only spent an afternoon here but fell in love with the area
Wouldn’t do LA but appreciate if you haven’t been but would limit it to 2 nights
3 nights Anaheim
3 nights Vegas
1 night Grand Canyon - a must do too!

I appreciate your husband's nervousness as well, I feel the same but the booking I made is refundable and I was only charged a deposit which I believe was one night plus tax. Hope this helps.
Also note that the booking site doesn't stay open every opening at different times each day. It didn't open until 3pm on Sunday and is not open now, need to try from about 11 am onwards. Also keep refreshing the page not just the check rates box.

We were supposed to be going to Disney in 4 days as I saw from my count down here, sadly that's not to be so we are doing a San Francisco stay and Disney visit next year (fingers crossed etc - might as well book now and hope for the best- need that something to look forward to)
Thanks for the 1 Year 1 Day tip in this - we've just booked two nights at the Valley Lodge for August next year.

We stayed at Tenaya Lodge, just outside Yosemite. We loved the hotel, they had lovely and knowledgable staff and the little town it’s in is fab. There’s a great BBQ place and a store. We’re hoping to return to Yosemite next year with our daughters and I’ll be looking at the same lodge again.
