I actually read this awhile ago, you packed so much into your trip!

You mention in the pre trip section that you got a good deal on the business flights. Can you give any advice about where/when to look? Quite happy to do ex-EU like you did.

Keep an eye on Flyertalk forums (look in the Mileage runs - premium flights section)

flyertalk/forum/premium-fare-deals-740/

Quite often you need to jump very quickly when you see something really good. Our mantra is leap first, question later (if it's a good deal!) I think we paid about £1100 pp for Stockholm to Adelaide - and 3 years ago we did Dublin to Hawaii for around £1000 I think.

Lots of good deals are around from time to time - but not always when you want them!

On Facebook search for secret flying - they often post the good deals quickly too.

It takes a bit of time - it's the first thing Alison checks every morning (Flyertalk and Facebook) - purely for flight deals - then again on and off through the day and last thing at night. It's worth it though!

Our DD is a primary school teacher, and she spent 3 weeks in Australia (Sydney, Gold Cost then Whitsundays) visiting her best friend who was out there for a couple of years. She left here a couple of days after the school broke up in July - she had fantastic weather (considering it was there winter!) for the whole time and wouldn't hesitate to go there again at that time of year.

Thank you, that’s really helpful.

That’s good to hear as I want to visit my brother in Perth but am restricted to school holidays.
