Alamo/sunpass question
So we’ve just returned from Florida (this Wednesday) and whilst there hired from Alamo but used the sunpass for the first time.
Today I noticed a £10.79 charge on our card from Alamo. I’m assuming this is for petrol (we took it back full but maybe not full enough) but upon asking around it appears this may be for tolls! Now I know we shouldn’t be charged by Alamo if we had a sunpass and even if it was billed through them $13 seems steep since we only used tolls to/from MCO but we did also use the express lanes in the 528 briefly going to/from the Florida mall. Is it possible we’ve used the wrong lane and the sunpass wasn’t valid therefore any Alamo charges have kicked in? Still to contact Alamo but I’d like to be forearmed if possible before kicking off lol

Sorry but I'm not sure why you think you don't get charged for using Sunpass.
All explained here but basically Alamo charge $3.95 per usage day admin fee plus actual toll costs. The admin fee maximises at $19.75. sunpass/en/tolls/rentalVehicles.shtml Mick

I think the OP means she used the Visitor Scheme for Tolls, where you are billed by the Sunpass scheme seperately?
Op, did you collect a pass from arrivals and hang it from your rear-view mirror when on the tolls?

Maybe but the Visitor Toll Pass charges completely separately to Sunpass.
Sunpass authorities charge Alamo (and all Florida car hire companies) then Alamo charge the tolls plus their admin fee to the CC that they swiped at the barrier. The VTP charges to the CC that you registered with them when you enrolled into the VTP scheme. Can be a completely different CC. Mick

No transponders on Alamo cars and if on the Beachline yes rental cars can use the express lanes.

Tom,
According to the Florida Express Lanes website floridaexpresslanes/beachline-expressway/ " Must have a SunPass or another interoperable transponder " Under FAQ - Tolling section How do I pay my tolls in the express lanes? Tolls will be collected electronically with an active, properly mounted SunPass or another interoperable transponder (listed on SunPass.com). Customers cannot pay for tolls in the express lanes using cash or TOLL-BY-PLATE, as they will be considered a violator and subject to additional fees. As you say Alamo do not have a transponder therefore maybe they cannot use the express lines ? |

Oh dear. I used those express lanes on the 528 thought it was OK as it had a Sunpass sign above it.
I too have a cc bill from Alamo but presume it was just for the days and tolls I had used whilst there. Does anyone know whether I will now receive a further violation charge?
