My sister had severe hayfever for years and she was on prescription meds to control it. She would try to wean herself off the medicines occasionally but was totally miserable without them. My sister wanted to get off the steriods and a friend told her to try accupuncture. I remember talking over it with my sister and bought of us thought it was highly unlikely to work. My sis decided to try it as if it did not work she would just be out some money, some time and some jabs from needles. It has been about 7 years now. She goes to get accupuncture about every year and a half. She knows it is time to go when her symptoms start to act up. I have no idea how or why it works and perhaps it will not be such a sucess for other people but it has been great for my sis. Might be worth a try. Ask your doctor what he thinks.

It is considered unsafe to give now...it has caused some very severe side effects particularly necrosing muscle disease in the gluteal muscle where it is given...
and has been responsible for deaths in patients, it is no longer recommended and those Drs and Nurses who give it are going against NICE guidelines and best practice...I would definately not want my child to have it (I have given it in the past for many years, not for the last 5 )
As nurses we are not advised to give it..GPs do give it under their own insurance but I don't think they get proper informed consent from the patients.
If I have a child who has severe hayfever and it is exam time - i give them a short burst of oral over 2 weeks and that has helped significantly in the past
prednisolone
sorry, I know people swear by it but it really is not safe to use regularly and I doubt it will be licensed for much longer...

I also recommend attending a good allergy clinic - for desensitizing treatment under supervision...it works absolute wonders in many people, especially those with life-threatening anaphylaxis to bee stings and peanuts for example...

(apparently you are immune till then)
they said they would give her the jab for her exam years and as this year is her gcse when should she have it?
and is it worth it and does it work?

any advise much appreciated.
I strongly advise you not to have the injection, ask for up-to-date treatment and advice , which would be a course of oral steroids to see her through her exams x
I question the knowledge and practice of the nurse...
