5 Go Mad in Miami
Hi all been going through old photos and thought I would create a trippy from my 1st trip to Florida.
Let me set the scene: Year 1989 Month July The Dollar was $2.02 to the Pound :grin Miami Vice wasn't a re-run . Sonia was in the charts Burger King hadn't made it over to the UK in any big way. Mulletts were still cool Church St Station was still a tourist attraction. Boardwalk and Baseball was still open. The cast: Me Chris aka Swampy Jay aka Billy Carl 1 aka Carlos Karl 2 aka Dunnie Paul aka Block Head Unfortunately you will only see 4 of us in the pictures as Paul was killed 8 weeks before we travelled. RIP Matey We flew from Manchester with Airtours on a chartered plane from a company called Orion Air. The plane was soon to be known as the Flying Pig. Due to it breaking down every time it flew. Luckily no delays on the way out but the way back is a different tale. Flight to Fort Lauderdale was via Bangor and took nearly 12 Hours! Heres the Flying Pig. This was a class plane honest. Back then seat back entertainment wasn't invented so you had to watch a telly 20 feet away! I just whiled away the hours on my new fangled Sony Walkman listening to a audio cassette of Guns and Roses! We satyed in a hotel on South Beach but cant remeber the name. Beach and Boardwalk This me by the Pool before I discovered Weight Gain and Hair Loss The rest of the possie, Jay on his front, Dunnie in the middle, Carlos at the end. View from the room and pool The room with some essentials, Just check out the TV! We then hired a car and travelled upto Orlando. On the way we got stopped for speeding but back then it wasnt on the spot and I think Carlo still has the ticket (Dont think he paid it). Hire Car, check out the rental sticker on the bumper. We stayed somewhere on the Orange Blossom Trail but again not sure of the name. Whilst in Orlando we visited MK and Epcot then went to Church St station for a night out. Back then I dont think they were so strict on being 21 as we went to Phineas Phoggs and got a little wasted. We then found a a restaurant where the sing was bigger than the place. [B]INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF PANCAKES.[B] Each letter was printed on a yellow block all the way across the front of the building with a flag fixed to each one. It's now just IHOP. I think I prefer it as it was. Check out the WDW Ticket 8th July 1989 cost @$29.00 plus tax. Here are a few random piccys. Note Nemo and Skycars were still there. I hope you enjoyed my little trip down memory lane and my first report. Ohh Nearly forgot the trip back. We went back to Miami to fly from Fort Lauderdale. When we got to the airport everything seemed fine, checked in no problem and then! Your attention please Airtours Flight xxx to Manchester has been delayed please contact your Airtours Rep. 3 days later and an extra free holiday at the Fort Lauderdale Hilton we got home. Airtours then sent a check for £50.00 for our delay. Result in my book Thanks for looking.

You think the ones you've seen are bad, looks at these babies. Must remeber to remind Jay about his fashion sense back then!
