Mobile Snacks on return from MCO and security

Just flew back and for the first time ever as well as putting liquids, electronics and shoes in seperate trays we also had to put ALL food items in a seperate tray to be scanned.

Never had to do this before and was a bit of a surprise (and slightly embaressing as i had 8 giant bags of m&ms plus candy corn and pumpkin pie kitkats so basically my large hand luggage item was all candy) - is this a standard in MCO now?

They have been doing this for a while now. Imagine my embarrassment when I was asked, and I said no... when they opened my bag, I totally forgot my daughter had put an All American footlong sub in my bag, as well as a box of cookies she has got for a friend! 🥖🍪 Oh the shame! 🤣

So is it better to put candy in checked luggage rather than hand luggage - dont want the embarrassment of hiking my 10 ton of chocolate bark out in front of the world

We've had to take stuff out a couple of times but it dioesn't seem to be a standard thing.

I pack all the bags of sweets together in zip lock freezer bags so they are easy to pull out at short notice.

Never heard of anyone being told to bin their snacks before though.

My actual case was also opened by TSA and checked - i suspect that was due to the 2l bottle of chocolate mudslide but then again it may not have been as my bags are ALWAYS checked when I come back from the US no matter where I fly out of

We had to do this last time they were making announcements over the tannoy to try and speed things up as people were frantically rummaging through bags to remove things. Slightly embarrassing as I had to tip out a whole backpack full of snacks/sweets as we had swapped out our remaining snack credits before leaving for the airport and I had already checked our main baggage.

From what one staff member said to us they run different systems so that no one knows what they will have to take out each time. When staff were swapping over when we were going through they had to ask what system they were running at the time so it can be different based on the time of the day. You don’t always have to take food out.
We got pulled over for them to check my bag this summer as I had a plastic stacking travel game in it that they did not recognise, we were flabbergasted to see the guy in front of us had been pulled over for a plastic demonstration hand gun in his bag! He worked for some sort of firearms company and thought it was fine. Security disagreed!

We found this out in August. We didn't see any signs and we didn't have to do it in 2017. Unfortunately we had 10kg of Ghirardelli plus pringles and other things. The security woman wasn't impressed as so many bags were being pulled off for security checks. My usually amazing hubby stood about 15 foot away while I had to claim all 4 cases as my own! He said I'd already had her wrath from the first one so there was no point him getting it too 😂 Definitely a lesson learnt for us!

When we went through last a Saturday we didn’t have to take anything out of our bags at all, I think it does depend when you go through, we were lucky as the dog was out
