Baby joggers are amazing, the one pull mechanism is great.

Can I tag on to this thread and ask for recommendations for a good pram/pushchair system for when my little one arrives? Not going for a car seat attaching style one as we’re getting a convertible car seat.

Needs to be robust as we walk far and often off road with our dog, but also fairly small as I only have a Yaris so not huge amount of boot space.

Thanks

A bugaboo if your budget goes that far .

We have the bugaboo fox for my granddaughter the carrycot is a really good size ( bigger than most ) she came
Out of it at 6 Months but there was loads of space still .
The pushchair seat is very roomy too , dream to push and a large basket .
It’s pretty robust we’ve walked miles with jt , it’s been to America 3 times , on beaches , down fields with the dog, in London on the underground etc
And 2 years on it still looks as good as new .

We also have a Bugaboo Bee , we got that when we she was a year old so didn’t have the newborn carrycot or cocoon , it’s much lighter than the Fox but because it just has small wheels it’s not so great at fields , it’s far better in towns .

We had the maxi cosi pebble plus car seat which fits on both but we rarely used it on the pushchair frames

Size wise we were able to get the fox carrycot and chassis into a MK6 fiesta boot .

Baby jogger city mini GT with the cot attachment. We had a GT versa, it’s been discontinued and I’ve still no idea why as it was PERFECT! Anyway... gt folds super small, great for off-road walking, the seat fabric comes off and can be thrown in the machine... only downside is once they are out of the cot they have to face outwards.

Have you considered second hand. Have a think about it! Because a
Lot of second hand buggies have had little use and are sold on for something else. We had a bugaboo donkey that we got for £300, it was over £1200 new. Then we sold it again once we no longer needed a double.

Have a look at the oyster zero. Similar fold to the BJ buggies. Seat is huge, basket is great, hood is massive, takes upto 20g. Leather handle and bumper bar. We love it!
I also have an Oyster Zero which I love.

I bought a second hand city mini first but just didn't get on with the curved handle and 3 wheels so I sold it and got the Zero ex-display. It's brilliant. Easy fold, massive hood, roomy seat, good storage, easy to push.

I also had a Mamas and Papas Armadillo at the same time(took two singles to Florida instead of a double) which I also loved but the Zero has the edge.

I've heard great things about Maclaren's but one handle was a must for me so that I could push and still have a hand free for my daughter, so I ruled out umbrella strollers.

I'm not sure how big the Yaris is but I could fit my Uppababy Vista in the boot of a Mazda 2.

I really recommend this pram(I can't bring myself to list it even though we're done having children - I love it that much!). It's brilliant through parks, woods, etc. Not for true off-roading - you'd need to look for a more specialist buggy for that, but brilliant for dog-walking.
It has an absolutely mahoosive basket and you really can't underestimate how important that is. So easy to manoeuvre, comes with the carrycot and has the option to turn into a double if your family grows. Huge hood and UV sunshade built in. It is on the heavier side so not ideal if you live in a flat or have a lot of steps to carry it up. I either wheeled mine into the house while baby was sleeping when young or it lived in the car.

There's so much choice for prams. You really need to get a shortlist of priorities e.g. folds up easily and small to use on the tube, one piece fold, air or foam wheels, etc and then one you have a shortlist test them out in store(it's a shame baby shows aren't running right now as they're great for this).

Another vote for the Baby Jogger City Mini GT. It has the easiest push ever, folds in one motion with one hand and my almost 6 year old still fits in the seat (not that she rides in it now!). We have had the single and double versions and they are just brilliant.

Thanks for some of the suggestions, always happy to receive more! I’ve been considering a baby jogger so will def try have a look at those.

We’re planning a trip down to our nearest mamas & papas in sept (which is well over an hour away, all the baby shops in our area closed down ) , and there’s a John Lewis nearby too so hoping to be able to try some out.

The baby show is currently scheduled to go ahead in London at end Oct so I’m trying to convince the husband to come (if it’s not cancelled) as I think we’ll be able to try out so much there.

Hi, I used to work at Bournemouth Baby Centre as store manager until late last year and still have close contact with the whole family there, not sure where you are logistically but we used to have people travel quite some hours to come to our showroom as there is such a huge choice on display to look at and play with.
I am aware at the moment though, you need to book an appointment and have an idea of what you're looking at so they can do demonstrations within their own little sectioned off areas with you, if you have no idea of what you want they will make recommendations based on your criteria.

My personally favourites over my many years working with the company are the Uppababy Vista, comes with the carrycot and seat unit included (though more recently they have started to sell some colours as an option to have only the seat) I love the huge basket and the built in UV sunshades (no hassle with messing around with a parasol or remembering to bring it out!) The wheels are multi terrain, and the chassis is lightweight and pretty compact but you may need to remove the rear wheels, super easy with quick release, literally takes a second and I prefer to remove dirty wheels and pop them in a bag anyway.

The Bugaboo Fox is great, again, multi terrain wheels and a secondary fold that makes it even smaller and flatter than the fast fold and a huge canopy hood (via a zippered section) which is UV protected.

Icandy Peach all terrain is another with a decent basket, good fold (similar to the Uppababy in that you will probably need to remove wheels to fit into boot)

All of them have seat unit that can face you or face the world, parent facing seems to be the more popular option but bear in mind they will be in the carrycot (facing you) laying flat until between 4-6 months, then into the seat unit where they will soon want to face the world and see their surroundings more often than not, of course it is nice to have the option to parent face if your little one is having a 'bad' day

Note that you need to remove the seat on the majority of parent facing systems so you need to make sure that not only does the chassis fit in your boot, but the seat unit (or carrycot when using) fit somewhere too.

As you walk a lot and need all terrain, small and lightweight the Mountain Buggy Swift would suit your needs, you can use the seat laying flat from birth, or buy a carrycot pack (I'd recommend) to use for around 4 months where they will be higher up and facing you. This should fit in the boot no problem, but it is 'petite'. If either of you are particularly tall it may feel a little too small to push. Mountain Buggy do larger models called the Urban Jungle but I don't think this will fit in your car.

Out n About Nipper and Baby Jogger are other really good all terrain brands (it would need to be the GT model on the baby jogger city mini). Both work the same way as the Mountain Buggy (and pretty much all other true all terrain systems) that you can attach a carrycot (or use a 'cocoon' soft carrycot inside the seat) and then they move to the seat unit which are generally larger on these models of pushchair as the seat is a whole fabric sling style over the chassis that you don't remove rather than a separate seat unit that you need to remove and attach in order to fold them down for putting them in the boot/storage.

Hope this helps a little! If you do give them a call to make an appointment or to order online, tell them Kerry sent you their way

We bought a Armadillo for a trip to America , it’s the worse pushchair I’ve ever had .

We all hated it , biggest issue for us was the seat doesn’t straight up so she was constantly pulling herself forward , and the suspension was non existent . The only plus was it was so easy to fold .
I paid £250 new for it and ended up selling it for £50 just to get rid , ended up replacing it with a Bee
