Happened to me in Asda with DD who was actually over 18. Sure I was annoyed but Had to accept their decision. DD on the other hand mentions it every time we shop in Asda (which admittedly isn’t that often &#128513

I didn’t realise the rules were so stringent over here. I know they are in the US, so much so that I believe you can’t even have a minor pushing a trolley with booze in it, or placing it at the checkout?

So, if you pop to the local shop to buy a bottle of wine and some beers for the adults of the house, and your 15 year old might be with you to grab some chocolate, there’s a chance you may not be served? Seems crazy if you ask me. I can see a difference if it’s another young adult (for example an 18yr old) with the 15 yr old, but when you’re in your 30s or 40s or above, or clearly the parent, it does seem overkill.

However, I understand the predicament of the shops, particularly when it’s youngsters themselves serving.

At least he knows next time to leave your son outside the shop

From my experience of 5 years in a supermarket, I would have done exactly the same as the lad and refused the sale. Please let it go. He’s just doing his job. Staff have to be so careful these days and the consequences are awful if caught serving underage even if they are with an adult.

Couldn’t your husband carry a basket then your son would have been out of it. However they are the rules so I don’t think anything will come of your complaint

If this the worst thing that has happened to you today, you’ve had a very good day.

You put it down as one of those things, and pick up your booze from elsewhere on this occasion.

Life is far, far too short to kick up a fuss about nothing where there can be no gain.

You said yourself you want their head on a stick .
Yes but I though it would be understood as an expression of how cross I was - I would not go shouting at someone in a shop .

You say they are youngsters who run the shop, so maybe just a few.years older than your son. If it was your son working there and he was told.he had to keep to the company policy, you wouldn't want him to bend the rules.
I realise it must have been a bit embarrassing but I'd honestly put it down to experience. If they'd let someone else get away with it and then refused your husband it might be different, but they apply to the.same rules to everyone.

He doesn’t have any physical impairment that renders him incapable of carrying a basket if that’s what you mean - he just didn’t pick one up .He didn’t realise that it’s an issue for a son to carry some shopping .Clearly I can see how wrong he was .
