My DH is not a skilled worker, he’s a very experienced factory worker and enjoys working in this environment. Over the years he’s had a few periods of unemployment due to redundancy and the recession. He’s taken very low paid work with long hours and sometimes unsafe working conditions to support the family. However, each time eventually a better job has turned up for him. He’s now working in a job he loves, still factory work, in the best paying factory in our area.

Redundancy can sometimes work out for the best. It’s not nice when it happens of course, but in our experience, there is always something else around the corner

These are lovely stories. I’m terrified of redundancy to the point where I get myself into a state over it(silly I know), so it’s nice to hear that there’s life after redundancy

Sorry I missed this, he’s just a picker and packer at the moment but enjoys it.
Hoping to start new job in December, he’s had all his checks and been told his role

There’s no “Just” about any job. I would have been lost during lockdown and even now without Amazon (stuff I never knew I needed 😱😱 !).

Keeping a roof over your heads and food on the table is never “just” ! 🥰

PS I’m glad he enjoys it, we all hear complaints about Amazon’s working conditions from time to time but your DH’s experience is positive.

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend.
It’s my nephew, not my DH, thankfully he owns his own business, unaffected by the current situation.

Oh bless, I wasn’t telling you off !

Someone I know ‘in real life’ has had a series of “un-skilled” jobs and he always seems embarrassed about them, so I give him the speech I made in my post !

I've said to many people that I have supported over the years about a silver lining, it may take a while to find it but numerous people have told me that they are much happier now.
Often being forced into looking for a new direction can be great.
